Pop goes my convention cherry!

Yesterday, I went to Wizard World St. Louis, my very first fan convention.  IT WAS SO AWESOME!!!  Stuff that happened:

- I took many photos of cosplayers, all of whom were super-awesome and friendly.  I may post them later.
- I met a pretty uncanny Captain Jack Sparrow cosplayer.  That took me back to my POTC fandom days, when I was younger and dumber and sillier.
- I also met an awesome Deadpool cosplayer who was just the right amount of zany and weird.  "I'm smelling your hair..."
- I MET JAMES MARSTERS.  We commiserated over being left-handed.  He told me, "When I was in school, they said, 'Five years ago, we could have beaten that out of you.'"  I said that my grandmother did similar things (yanking forks out of her kids hands) and that at least one nun tried to punish my mother for it by not letting her write on the board.  This happened because I could think of nothing fannish to say that he hadn't heard before (besides "You helped me through my second year of college!") and because I like to commiserate with all lefties I meet.  Then I ran around in a state of SQUEEEEEEEEE for the rest of the day.
- I nearly got Tom Felton's autograph, but he went on break right before I got to the front, so I came back an hour later, the line was huge, and I decided against it.  I did tell him "see ya," and he said the same.  I also waved at Morena Baccarin and she smiled back.  I didn't see a lot of the other guests (like Stan Lee, Billy Dee Williams, Lou Ferrigno, Henry Winkler, Laurie Holden, or Dean Cain) because they were either on break when I passed their booths or because I didn't venture in very far into the autograph sections since I didn't know what to expect.  When I got home, I was like, damn, I should have seen more of them, but I saw my personal top picks, so it's all okay.  Maybe next time I'll be more adventurous in that regard.
- I invested in a TARDIS Jayne-style winter hat, three pairs of earrings, three pendant necklaces (one each for me, my mom, and my sister), five Doctor Who postcards, and a picture of a TARDIS-ized Starry Night.  I couldn't pick a T-shirt---too many options and my OCD was getting to me.  I'm glad I picked the hat because it's snowing up to (or more than) six inches today.

When I got home, my sister, JoJo, started scrutinizing my JM autograph: "Man, he has really sucked-in cheeks!"  "It looks like 'Vames'!  Oh, he hooks the J into the M!  COOL!"  "YAY!  He spelled my name right!"  Then my parents were like, "'Bite me'?"  Me/JoJo: "He played a vampire!"

All in all, I had a blast and I hope Wizard Con comes back to St. Louis next year so I can take JoJo and two of my cousins.  I think a con would be even more fun in a group (which is probably true).
