No one mourns the Wicked! Or Mayan prophecies, for that matter.
So the world did not end like Iron Man thought it would. Oh well, I'm sure conspiracy theorists will come up with another date to scare us. But in the meantime: YAY!!! No molten lava or asteroids!
In other news, I went with my family to see Wicked. I've worshipped my Original Cast Recording CD since the summer of 2006, but I hadn't seen it on the stage before. It is MESMERIZING. And it had tons of shout-outs to the original Wizard of Oz book and movie, which were awesome and amusing. It is also the best fix-it fic ever. This cast took enough liberties with songs' melodies (holding certain notes longer, talking through certain parts, pausing in different places) to make the performance memorable, and this Elphaba could totally hold her own vocally when compared with Idina Menzel.
So has anyone else seen Wicked? I'd really love to squee with someone about it. Or at least trade stories of childhood trauma incurred by too many viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
