On Friday, I took my brother to see Thor.  I wrote a review of it here, but right now, I need to fangirl about it to relieve some Finals Week stress (1 paper down, 3 to go).

Okay, this whole movie was just a ton of fun, like a good summer movie should be.  Things got a bit confusing in the third act, but the whole film was definitely gripping.  Bathroom breaks were torturous because I knew I would be missing so much awesome.

More specific stuff:

- Geez, Chris Hemsworth, could you be any more fucking gorgeous?  Seriously, it has to be said.  Just...damn.  If there's a sequel, it needs more shirtless scenes.  Alright, I'm putting the id away now.

- All that aside, I kind of identify with Thor because I can definitely be that older sibling: loud, a bit overbearing, quick to jump to conclusions, act before I think, etc.  Unfortunately, I'm not nearly as charismatic as he is.  Strangely, he reminded me of a few guys I knew in high school.

- I want to go on vacation in Asgard.  The CGI was so terribly beautiful that I had to keep reminding myself, "It's just a projected image.  It doesn't exist.  Stop looking for potential tourist destinations."

- Loki!  I loved that he was sympathetic with all his issues and insecurities, but he still got to be a magnificent bastard, manipulating people right and left.  And I think I ship Thor/Loki.  What the hell?  I didn't ask for an incest ship!  Damn, I thought I put that id away.  *shoves id in pocket*

- Lady Sif, I think I love you.  I loved that she was a good warrior in her own right (with an awesome weapon of her own) and not just "the chick" in Thor's little Asgardian five man band.  I could see some potential Thor/Sif in a sequel, but I really liked that they were friends, first and foremost.  Also, I swear Sif had more sense than any of the Warriors Three.

- Natalie Portman is too damn cute.  Jane/Thor = adorkable.

- I think I ship Thor with everybody ever.  I even want one-sided Hawkeye/Thor fic.  It stems from the line, "I think I'm starting to root for this guy."

- Why didn't Heimdall get more to do?  Or Thor's mom, for that fact?  Ack, I love every character too much.

- People are complaining about Darcy, Jane's nerdy intern/assistant, but I thought she was cute, probably because if I was in their situation, I'd like to be Jane (all clever and righteously angry and attracting the hot guy), but I'd most likely end up being Darcy (snarking and bitching about my stolen iPod).

- The ending was way too open-ended for my taste.  I know they're setting up The Avengers and a separate sequel, but it should have closed more threads while opening some new ones (Batman Begins, for instance, did this really well).
Basically: I want a movie fandom!  Badly!
