Today I attended the funeral service of one of my mother's best friends. Marg died last week in St Vincents after an almost twenty year battle with non-Hodgkins lympoma. We always knew it would happen but that didn't prepare us for it when it did.
Marg was one of the most joyful and joyous people I have ever met. Always thinking of others, always laughing, always supportive, always generous and cheerful. She would send mum spontaneous letters in the mail that held feathers and sparkles that would fall out of them when opened. They would be signed with a huge red lipstick kiss and a 'lots of love always, Marg'. These kisses and signature were included on the inner leaf of today's program.
She really really deserved better. She deserved a longer, happier, more fulfilled life. However, regardless of the difficulties she had been dealt, she lived each second she had with a smile and with joy, and she built communities and made all our lives brighter, and never ever had a bad word or a regret. Marg, we will miss you dearly. Your smile will stay with me forever and you will not and could never be forgotten.
