I'll drown my beliefs to have you be in peace.

I suppose it's time for an update. It's been too long.

Crap: I haven't had time to buy the new Sigur Ros. Doesn't that suck? I'll get it tomorrow, don't worry. I promise you.

This Saturday Nikki and I are going to the biggest game of the year in college football: Ohio State vs. San Diego State. Wait, something tells me that OSU has probably played a team that is better or something.

The real game to watch last week was OU vs. Pittsburgh. Because we spanked their asses! And by spanked I mean we scored no offensive touchdowns and managed to squeak by with a touchdown-scoring interception in overtime. Not only did we watch the game, we were there. In typical OU fashion we celebrated this glorious occasion by setting furniture on fire in the middle of the street.

The Indians are really taking care of business. They are 1/2 a game up on the Yankees for the wild card and are now within 4.5 games of the Chicago WhiteSox for the division. The key as of late has been the pitching. All 5 starters are really on a roll and Millwood is now quietly leading the AL in ERA. Meanwhile Cliff Lee is looking to finish within spitting distance of a 20-win season. The bats have been fine since June and someone new steps up to be the hero every night. Also of note is the power surge recently. They've scored a ton of home runs.

The Cavs landed Damon Jones as thier point guard. He is not a true point guard and he won't put up Nash-like assist numbers. He is, however, an outstanding 3-point shooter and has a nice assist/turnover ratio. He should be a nice kick-out option when teams double on LeBron James or Ilguaskas.

The Browns suck and will suck for a little while. There is promise in the organization. If they make progress this season, it won't show up until November.

So I should comment on this hurricane ordeal. It really sucks. How do you make levees that are only designed to withstand Level 3 Hurricane winds? Obviously that's the biggest problem here. This is a city that is frickin' below sea level and is in a location that makes it geographically likely to be exposed to hurricanes every year. It also has a huge river flowing into it. Build another flippin' Hoover Dam if you have to! Other than that things have gone smoothly... about as smooth as drill bits in a blender. Bush showed up approximately way too late and offered some of his worst leadership skills for the victims and the country. Wouldn't Clinton have been great at a time like this? Unlike Bush, Clinton actually has empathy. He actually cares about people. I'm not just saying that because I like him. Clinton liked people a little too much. Bush, on the other hand, doesn't give a shit about people. To me he's most obviously shallow when asked for sympathy. It just seems so rehearsed and labored. Jon Stewart has said that this characteristic is what makes him successful(though I'd argue the premise, but at least politically, he has had enough success) and what made Clinton unsuccessful. Bush doesn't give a f*ck about you; Clinton really did give a f*ck about you and, indeed, probably wanted to f*ck you.

Bush's cowboy, "get the bad guys," shoot-em-up attitude resonated well in the aftermath of 9/11. It was easier then. He had someone to blame, someone to go after. When, however, he has to blame himself, he is at his worst. He is not an introspective man, so why should it be any surprise when he fails in figuring out what his federal government did wrong?

I'm not blaming Bush for a natural disaster. I'm not blaming him for an ill-suited protection plan in New Orleans. After all, this could've easily happened during on any president's watch in recent memory. I am blaming his poor leadership. At a time of a disaster you can be a Hoover or you can be a Roosevelt. Though I occasionally bask in W's blunders, I do not wish for a blunder that drags the entire country down. I hope for everyone else's sake that he can be more of a Roosevelt from here on out.
