Medieval Women
My favorite subject at the Con has to be the only completely non-musical subject there is. Historical and Cultural. I think I may have made a post about this before, when Dianne brought a half a tree into the lecture and wore a fake fur as "no animals were harmed in the making of this lecture".
On Friday, I will be doing a 25 minute presentation on Medieval Women, and I am loving the prep time. The lecture was almost completely on sex in the middle ages, and I swear I have never talked about sex so much in one day before, it was quite amusing, the conversations we were having. Women were never meant to be on top, the only acceptable position is face to face with the man on top.... Sex is not meant to be enjoyed, ever, and should never be done merely for the enjoyment of it but it should only be done when trying to procreate. Also, those who are more sensitive should stop reading here, the woman is said to have an inverted penis as her inner organ, we are soft and wet while the men are hard and dry, and of course the men are much more desirable.
You can read again from here if you stopped with the sex talk. My plan for part of my presentation is to discuss my family. That's right, I'm going to talk about my family in the middle ages. If we had existed then, we would be either upper middle or lower upper class. We live most of the year on the rural estate, coming into the city only during the season, except for my brother when he grows up as he goes to a private school and goes into law. My sister goes into a convent at the end of her childhood schooling, at the local catholic school. I can follow 1 of 2 paths. I can either be a complete heretical woman and burn at the stake, or I can just abstain from marriage. I like the abstinance from marriage as the story goes on if I do. My father dies early, as he has always predicted, and my mother lives then in my brother's household while I go off and use my dowry to invest in a small amount of property, I look after the sick and make frineds that way. My brother gets married and the wife kicks my mother out and into a convent. (here I show the difference between a nun who is just celibant and a nun who is a virgin) Then my brother hears about what his wife has done and gets angry and kills her in a way that he cannot be prosecuted. I then join with Carl and help run his house and properties, which is good for him as he can be away from home, and also he gets joint ownership of my new property. Then my brother dies a sad natural death from the plague, and I live as a spinster, a wealthy spinster, and leave my land and possesions to two groups, some to the monarchs as is expected, and the rest to the heretical women :P
So yeah, I like that, it amuses me.
I'm off to do some practice, have lunch then go to my solfege class. I don't have work tonight and I'm so happy about that!!! Well, I love you all top bits, but that's me for the day.
