I'm in two wedding this summer.
One is in August and is for my good friend Carolyn who I've been friends with since I was 4 years old. Things have gone pretty smoothly for hers, no real complaints except for what it's costing me to be in it.
The other wedding is for my friend Crystal who i've known for...almost 3 years. We went to college together, but haven't really seen each other since we graduated a year ago. Anyways...she's crazy. Not Bridezilla by any means...just a crazy girl.
Already we've had a "girls weekend" where we all (7 fucking bride's maids) went up to Barrie for the weekend, then did the Bridal Show in Toronto.
Now again, this weekend, she want's another one. Friday until Sunday. Who has this much time to give up? I know I don't. Luckily I work 12 hours on Saturday and get out of most of it. But here's what she said I have to do.
Tonight after work...5:30pm probably...I have to drive to Kenilworth (1:15 hour drive)...then we're going to do a little more wedding planning and JUST WATCH TV. Then I have to drive back home that night (40 minutes) because I work at 6am. So I obviously can't stay late since I have to wake up around 4:30am. So i'm doing 2+ hours of driving to hang out and watch TV for 2 hours?
Then, I have to work all day Saturday (which is fine and will be fun), but as soon as I'm done, I have to drive back to Kenilworth (another hour and 15 minutes). She wants to go to the bar and get drunk! Then we're having a sleep over and in the morning we have to go to church with the groom's mom and meet the minister. Then we're going for lunch and it's done.
Long story short...after letting this thing stress me out, i'm ditching tonight. I already tried to get out of it yesterday, but she told me I can't. I've decided fuck her though.
75% of me doesn't even want to be in this wedding. She's having too many girls weekends, and the entire wedding is going to cost me about $2,000 to be in. Horse shit. Her own wedding is only costing her $3,000. Does that make sense?
Is it rude to back out?
Am I a terrible friend for missing one of the girl's nights?
I am never putting my bride's maids through this.
