Migraines - A Percival Vordane FST (Single)
Percival Vordane was born in a tiny village, isolated beyond the Thracian mountain range. The eldest of five, he and his siblings seemed destined to the simple life their parents led. The boy proved to be smart from a young age, and during the occasional patrols by the Thracian Dragon Knights, he would talk to and learn much from the soldiers. The boy had talent, but his family needed the help in the fields and with fishing, there was little one could do about it.
And then it happened - mountain bandits raided the village one night. His father fell at the hand of one of them trying to protect his family - his mother followed shortly after, trying to stop them from getting to her children. Knowing he couldn't possibly flee with four small children in tow, he made the decision that would stick with him for the rest of his life - took one of his sisters and ran, forsaking the other three, who met their end at the hands of the raiders like their parents before them.
The decision wasn't without regret - in a foolish move he returned to the village to try and get the others out, and he still bears a scar on his neck from it.
The Knights came, albeit too late - much had already been destroyed, many had died. Percival and his sister, orphaned, were taken to the Thracian capital by the Knights, and this is where this FST begins.

Here's the weight of the world on my shoulders
He started out at the military academy a determined, focused youth - he wanted to do something so that no one would have to suffer through the same fate as his family. He was trained in the art of strategy as best as a country that relied almost solely on brute strength could provide with, and with his natural talent and intellect, rose quickly through the ranks to the position of head strategist of the army and personal advisor to recently crowned Queen Branwen Thracia.
With his position came the harsh realization of how far-fetched his dreams were - the country had a history of poor administration, Queen Branwen was highly impopular among some of the government officials, the treasury was eternally half-empty, and the troops, albeit highly trained, lacked focus and motivation for the most part. With few intellectuals around and the incompetence of most of those few (in his eyes), he took upon himself far too much - and the workload, pressure, stress quickly built up to drive him to the edge of a nervous breakdown.

Percival has many flaws. One of his biggest is his lack of ability to listen and see things from other points of view - his own beliefs are his drive, and he does everything according to them regardless of what others may suggest. With just how much work he does and how stressed he gets, however, he often misses the bigger picture - he's gotten to a point where he doesn't even know what he's trying to do anymore. Homesickness and melancholy have started to kick in, and part of him wishes he could go back to being the innocent village boy from way back when.

The biggest influence in his life is the sister that he saved, Damaris. From the day of their family's death the two have become inseparable, even when they can't be physically close. They argue a lot due to being almost complete opposites, but in the end, the two share the same skeletons in their closets, and they're the only ones the other will let into their life. Damaris is the only reason he hasn't quite gone completely crazy yet, the reason why he continues to struggle in his job... and the cause of many headaches. But it's fine, he forgives her minutes later.

A delicate thread ties me to

This song is a perfect reflection of the nostalgia he feels. His choice still haunting him, the scar on his neck and the sister that remained constant reminders of what happened, he was never fully able to get over the massacre from years ago - the more he works, the more distant he becomes from his initial dream, and the more he wishes he could just turn back time and do things differently, so that he would never have to be in the position he is now and could have, indeed, grown up to live the simple life that his parents did.
