Granada Day 2, Sunday

May 14, 2008 15:37

hI had planned to wake up at 8ish but at 6am, someone's alarm woke me up. They were probably getting ready to queue up at the Alhambra. I went back to sleep. At 9am, I met Sandra and Austin at the pantry downstairs for breakfast. We then took a bus to the bus station and bought a 2-way ticket to the Alpujarras. The journey took about 2.5 hours but the view was awesome.

At 12.30, we alighted at a little town called Bubion. The pretty town seemed dead. We were wondering where everyone was. We were starved so we entered a bar and were told that they weren't serving lunch till after 1.30pm. The other bars said the same thing, so we decided to take a walk up to the next town, Capleira. Thankfully, there was more life in that town and more importantly, they are already serving lunch. We had lunch at some cafeteria/bar in a small square.

After lunch, we decided to do a bit of trekking to get a better view of the area. The walk up the hills and rocks were exhausting (especially since I haven't exercised much these days) but the view was magnificent. We hung around a bit to enjoy the atmosphere and view, took some silly photos and then headed back down to the town and took a bus back to Granada at 5pm.

Back at the hostel, we found out that there would be an official tapas tour at 9pm, organized by Joe from the UK. He's working in the hostel for free accomodation till June and I think all he has to do is make beds and organize 3 tapas tours a week. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. So the 3 of us and Adrian hung out at the hostel's rooftop to kill time before the tour.

I love the rooftop, I could just hang out there the whole day. 9pm finally came and off we went. It was a big group (again). By the time we got to the 2nd tapas bar, it was already 10.30pm. Some of us wanted to go to Eshavira to catch a local flamenco music performance at 11pm. So a group of us (the same four, together with Marcus from Brazil) left the tapas bar and headed to Eshavira. The place was already crowded by the time we arrived but the performance was awesome, especially the percussions! A few others from the tapas tour group joined us not long after.

After the performance, a few of us hung around outside the pub (in the cold) and did stupid things and take stupid photos.

Okay maybe it was just Joe acting stupid.

Then we headed back to the hostel. On our way back I was walking beside Joe. I love his british accent.

me: damn it's cold.
joe: want my jumper??
me: nah it's fine i'm strong
joe: you?? you're not strong look at you!
me: hey, i'm strong for my size! bet i could beat you at arm wrestling anytime

And then he did the most outrageous thing. To prove me wrong, he scooped me up, heaved me over his right shoulder and fireman-carried me for a good 80m upslope back to the hostel, while the rest were walked behind us laughing. Damn that guy is strong for his size. It was good fun though. When we arrived at the hostel, we decided to take a group photo using the self-timer.

That´s Joe (aka Pepe or Jose), the one person I know who looks good in dreadlocks. On the right is our group photo. Clcckwise: me, Adrian, Joe, Marcus, Austin and Sandra

So that was day 2 en Granada!
