Weekend review

Jan 25, 2005 00:40

Okay I'll have to lump the past 3 days into one big entry. I'll divide it up with LJ-cuts though, so it's not painful to see on your friends pages. Aren't I thoughtful? ;]

Started with sleeping in late, lounging a bit and then helping Vic set up for Ryan's big birthday party. Wasn't much to set up and it went pretty smooth. We left up the New Years streamers and disco ball and added a Happy Birthday sign and some blue streamers to give the rec room some color. Missy came over and added Eliza Dushku pictures, which RDT appreciated immensely.

The party in general was really really fun. It was on the same level as New Years, not too over the top, I was just the right amount of buzzed, and lots of good conversation and people. And "Roadhouse" was playing on an endless loop, so I've now seen the movie 6 times and yet I still have no idea what anyone says in that movie ever.

Okay, okay I'll quit stalling and get to the good part: the exchange of phone numbers. It was pretty early in the party and the doorbell rings. I go to answer it and there's a guy standing there I don't know. He's clearly never been to the Stern House before and I figure he's a friend of Ryan's. I take him back to the rec room and try to find Ryan but he's not around at the moment. Then he says he's actually a friend of Kat and Jen's, but they haven't arrived yet. So I start talking to him so he's not standing awkwardly by himself.

We stated with the basics: work, where we're from, our names, blah blah blah. His name is Brian, he's from Colorado, he didn't go to Emerson, he's an editor. We basically just kept talking even after Kat and Jen did get there. I think I left eventually to take off my shoes or something and I joined another conversation, then he wandered into it. Then later he went outside and was sitting at the table, not alone, but not talking to anyone exactly. I was pretty sure he looked in my direction to see if I was following him outside. I wait a minute or so, then go out also.

We talk some more, we both have a love for zombie and horror movies. He's a geek, which I like. He's somewhat of an Ian type. Tall, dark hair, some facial hair. But he has glasses and his eyes look almost Asian. I have a habit of playing with my thumb ring, so at one point he leans over and takes it off my thumb. Very nice indeed. He also sneezed, I said bless you, and he touches my shoulder when he says thank you. Eventually I dart off with Vic and Jen to present the cake to Ryan.

Side note: The cake was awesome because the store had screwed up and just not filled the order. So instead of geting one 12' cake, we got two 9' cakes. So Jen went out to kill the lights, I walked out with the first cake which said "Happy Birthday" and then Vic followed with the second cake that said "Ryan." RDT's reaction was, "Hahaha cake....holy shit!" He was pleased. And then I was delegated the task of cutting the cake, while Vic passed them out. It was fun. Okay, back to the boy.

After the cake stuff, I went back outside and sat with some girls and chatted. Brian was inside talking to a different girl and I kept glancing towards them, getting a tad jealous. Eventually he comes back outside and sits by me. He says he's going to leave soon, but if he gives me his card, will I call him? I say sure and I go get him one of my cards. A little while later he left with a handshake and a smile. And apparently he's going to be at the frat party on Saturday. Score!

During the course of the night, Jen and Brandy asked what I thought of them hooking me up with him, and I kinda grinned and shrugged like I wouldn't be opposed to the idea. Then when Brandy couldn't remember his name she goes, "What's your boy's name?" And then the next day they said how they saw us exchange numbers. Heeheehee! He hasn't called yet, but then again it's only been 2 days. He might be doing that guy thing of waiting 3 days before calling. If I don't hear from him by Wednesday, I'm calling him.

Sunday I had to be up at 11:00 for my official last day on "Rockin' Romeo & Juliet." First I made the mistake of getting the locations mixed up, because I thought we were finally at Griffith Park Zoo, but apparently not. We were back at Highland Park. Luckily, they were only like 15 minutes away from each other, so I didn't miss anything because they were still setting up with I got there.

We filmed the big opening fight sequence and a "big" audience extra scene. That was kinda of fun because I got to direct the extras in their reactions. I had written out each beat of a reaction and I went through the reactions with them, then yelled them out and different motivations so they could react. It was pretty fun actually, and I think Ginger dug it. I got out of there at 4:00, which was a little earlier than everyone else, because Ryan's birthday dinner was that evening and I had to shower and change.

After some confusion about where people were and where the restaurant was, I got there a little before 7:00. I wasn't first there and I wasn't last there, so I'd say I was about on time. It was me, Ryan, Vic, Brandy, Jen, Missy, Ben, Joe, and Connie. It was chill and very fun. A nice contrast to the party the night before.

When we finished dinner, we reconvened at our house to eat cake #2. We lost Joe and Connie and picked up Rory and Kat. Things got a bit more animated and I heard some awesome Vegas stories. There's a Vegas trip coming up in March and I'm sure as hell going. I think that having my first trip to Vegas with the girls would be a fucking blast. It was a seriously fun evening.

A big surprise of that night, was a voicemail I got from Ginger and David. Basically they were so pleased with my work and thought I did such a good job, they want to pay me. They can't pay me much, like $50 or something. But they thought I did such a good job that it should be compensated. Ginger even said I was overqualified and should be working on big films. How sweet is that?! I guess I'm pretty good after all. Heehee!

Today was definitely a case of the Mondays. Wheelio had a rough day. Not sure how exactly it happened, but the plastic/rubber thing under the bumper broke on one side. Luckily traffic was stop and go down the 405, so it didn't really get dragged badly. I mean, it must have been dragging, but I was going so slow it didn't hurt it. I heard a weird noise, but couldn't figure out what it was. It was when I was going down the off-ramp I really felt/heard the bumper thing dragging.

I pulled into my first stop and saw what happened. I go inside, pick up my dailies and ask if they have any rope so I can tie it to the bumper for the time being. They don't have rope, but one of the guys who works there spends like, 20 minutes taping it together. It was seriously funny and really amazing of him to do for me. It held surprisingly well. I didn't go over 35 and was very careful, and I managed to get through most of the day with it like that.

Then when I went to set, I had the Transportation guys look at it and they fixed it better. They secured it with a few zip cords, and it's really on there now. But they also said that the thing doesn't do anything and it might make more sense to just rip it off. I'm debating whether I should take it to an auto body repair shop and have it fixed for real, or just let the Transpo guys rip it off next time I'm on set. I'm not sure.

If I get it fixed in a shop, it'll cost something, not sure what. If they rip it off, it'll be free. I'm just a little reluctant to rip things off of Wheelie, even if they say it doesn't serve a purpose. But it's hanging in there for now until I make up my mind. Maybe John can look at it and give me an opinion. He's somewhat of a car guy. Living with boys can come in handy so often. Mostly when I need things fixed. =Þ

But then to add insult to injury, Wheelie got another bang today. I was pulling out of the parking garage of the production office, and one of the valet's was backing a car up. So I stop and wait for him to stop backing up. And I watch as he backs right into me. I was watching and it was one of those things you saw happen but couldn't stop. I saw he was going to back right into me like, 5 seconds before he did, but couldn't find the horn on my steering wheel.

Most horns are right in the middle of the wheel, but mine has two little tiny buttons on either side. So sometimes my beeps are delayed because I can't find the damn things. But luckily Wheelio was fine. Didn't hurt her any. The valet boys were falling all over themselves to clean the car, and that was nice of them. Bet they're gonna be real nice to me for the rest of the 5 weeks. Heh. So yeah. Wheelie had a rough day. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

In some other short snippets, after getting some advice from Dad, I decided to back out of the 2 day short film this weekend. I felt guilty doing it on somewhat short notice, but I think it's in my best interest. They weren't paying me, it's only 2 days, the script is only 7 pages long, and this paying job is going to take precedent. After working hard all week, I'd like my weekend to relax and have some fun. I feel bad, but I will get over it, and I'm sure they can bounce back. With a 7 page script, a Scripty isn't gonna be that crucial.

After this weekend, I feel like I've really been even more accepted by some of the girls in the group. Jen and I told the "potato" story at RDT's party like 5 or 6 times, and that's gonna be on the back of my frat party tshirt. And Jen also sent me an email inviting me to tshirt night with the girls and Rory. Yay! It's so fun having a group of girls to hang out with again. I miss my Ithaca girls, and having LA girls will be the next best thing. Plus they're all awesome. I said it before and I'll say it again. I could not have found a better house, better roommates, and a better group of people to get absorbed into. Yay fate!

Holy fuck that was a long entry.
Bed time.
