BKM bullshit

I am not happy with BKM. Monday was the day John went to the hospital for some tests and whatnot, and so I filled in as assistant. The day went fine and I did fine and there were no problems. I even had a conversation with Barry at the end of the day and he said he'll start paying me $25 a script for script coverage. This seems like easy money so I say sure. The next morning I come in for an hour or so because John is still groggy and he overslept.

But he gets there and I have to leave soon to babysit but John says to wait so Barry can pay me. Now, bear in mind that I worked 9.5 hours on Monday and another hour, hour and a half Tuesday morning. And I had said once before to John that if Barry were to hire me part time, the lowest I would take is $10 an hour. I'm thinking $10 an hour is reasonable and that's what I am being paid for flling in. John takes $60 out of the petty cash drawer and goes into Barry's office.

I'm thinking, "Okay so maybe Barry is giving John some more money out of his wallet for the time being, or maybe Barry is just gonna write a check..." And then John comes back and hands me some cash, which I take but don't look at. I always do that, I take the money and don't count it until I'm away from the person who gave it to me. So I walk out of the office, look at the money and see how much it is. $50. I worked for about 10 hours and they gave me $50. That's $5 an hour. That's fucking insulting.

I realize I'm just "the intern" to them, but if I was stepping in for John, I think it's not unreasonable to ask I get paid like John. Not that I know how much John makes, but I have to assume it's more than $5 an hour. I babysat for 4 hours last Thursday, and made the same amount. I was so pissed. And it definitely cleared things in my head. I will do the script coverage, but after this week I'm done with BKM. I can always stop by to pick up and drop off scripts. But I'm really tired of their crap.

I started to tell John that the film I got a gig on went south, so I bailed, but as usual I never got to finish telling him because he never really listens when I try to tell him anything. He is very much a drama queen, but only his drama interests him. So he still thinks the shoot is going on, and at this point I'm inclined to let him think that. Of course I have no intention of coming back now, but I don't feel like sharing that just yet.

After the BKM nonsense, I went to Valencia to babysit Hunter May. We had fun again, but she didn't really like the DVD I brought. First time I brought the Carebears, and she knows and likes the Carebears so she liked that. Yesterday I brought "The Brave Little Toaster" and she didn't know it, so she wasn't really feeling it. But we did lots of stuff yesterday. We tried to watch some of the DVD, then we went outside to ride her tricycle, then ride a Hot Wheels type car, then went out back to play with the dog and encounter a lot of dog crap so we retreated back inside the house to eat a snack and watch Sesame Street. Then Lisi called and asked if I could take Hunter May a few houses down to play with her friend Olivia. So we did and they had fun bouncing on a huge trampoline with Olivia's other sisters and brother, Lexi, Mya and Zack.

Then Hunter's older sister came and we went back to Hunter's house and Lisi invited me for dinner, but I declined because I was tired and wanted to go home. Plus BJ had a poker game so I didn't want to miss that. The poker game was really fun. Sometimes the games are kind of subdued, but not this time. BJ invited a friend from work and she brought a friend who brought a friend, Gerry Ann, Al and Dean. They were all older than me, BJ and Kat and very funny.

It was a very unpredictable game and the pot was huge. Gerry Ann, Dean and Al all bought back in, so there was an extra $40 in the pot. Dean ended up being the big winner after he bought back in, because he messed with our heads. He would go all in with like, $50+ dollars on a King high, but then on the next hand he'd have a flush. He was unpredictable and hard to go up against. Gerry Ann went out again and stayed out the second time, Kat went out, I had under $10 but I hung in there. BJ went all in against Dean because he was sure Dean was full of crap, but it was one of the few times Dean had the nuts. So BJ went from like, $30 or $40 to out.

It was down to Al, Dean and me at the end, and I was very short stacked. They kept duking it out and going all in and I tried to steer clear of them, but I did manage to double up at the end. So once the game was over, I was up $2! It may not seem like much, but it was the first time I was up, so I wasn't gonna complain. Maybe the next game I'll actually walk away with something worthwhile! It was a fun night though, and Al was either really drunk or liked me because every time I won a hand he rubbed my shoulder very enthusiastically, or when our knees bumped he made a joke then rubbed my knee, and at the end of the night he gave me a huge bear hug. It was amusing.

Today I have to drag my ass to BKM (blehhhhhhhh) and then we have a family dinner at BJ's because Ken is in town. And that's BJ's the restaurant, not my cousin's house. Ken is going to BJ's first, then they and Kat are gonna come to my place so they can see my house. BJ is the only one who's seen it so far. I keep meaing to have a house warming thing, and I keep forgetting to follow through. Maybe a small family holiday party? That could be nice...
