It's been snowing increasingly heavily all day, from a few flakes at ten to a huge amount now. I didn't realise it was still snowing until just now when I saw my balcony ledge has about 8 inches on it - and it's not a wide ledge. There could easily be a foot of fresh snow up the mountain... two feet by tomorrow if thi keeps up - which means powder day tomorrow! I am getting the first lift tomorrow morning, I don't care how hard it is to get out of bed. Finally, some decent conditions. Only had a couple of days of really good skiing the whole season so far, after New Years. But this is the Real Thing. I just hope all the lifts aren't closed to the top because of avalanche risk... So bed for me now.
I just filled in my 'music' and thought I should explain - normally snow cannon noise is the standard fare here, but because it's been at least 10 degrees warmer than it should have been they haven't been producing any snow except high up. So this phssing sound is quite a change! Goodbye rocks, mud and ice.
Oh, I keep thinking of new things - I've been increasingly experimental along the 'flour water hot chocolate powder' cooking range, beginning with pancakes, and eventually perfecting the 'double' pancake, cooked with chocolate inside... delicious. Anyway, this evening at 11.45, feeling a little peckish I took it a little further, and researched pastry recipes. I then made pastry dough and ignored all the cooking instructions, making little sachets of hot chocolate powder with the pastry and frying them in butter, pancake style. Quite a success I must say, they went golden coloured and crispy and delicious. The only slight downside was that the chocolate powder didn't seem to melt all the way through consistently, but I think with thin enough pastry that could be averted, and indeed almost was on my third and last round. Oh, and the chips I made yesterday were delicious! So good they actually tasted better without vinegar on! And that's coming from someone who eats mozarella salad only for the vinegar (mozzarella has no taste!). And they were amazingly easy to prepare. Yes, so basically I'm enjoying cooking for myself without the constraints of realism.
