Skiing on Sunday and Diving by Wednesday. Life is good.
After a long trip back I am finally back in South Korea. I am trying to hang on to the good vibes from my vacation but a severe case of Post Vacation Depression is coming on.
In all I was
surprise to find that all the diving (22 dives including the night dive), the rooms, and the drinks and meals that I took
at Genesis Divers was only about $1000. Not too bad for 3 weeks.
I rounded out my dives with a final one on the house reef with. It was a little dissapointing but fun nonetheless.
I met a lot of interesting people during my time there. Thats part of the magic at
Genesis Divers, it attracts a more laid back type of diver that is more likely to stay for weeks instead of days.
I will always remember a 63 year-old Dannish Grandmother who learned to dive at age 57. She stayed for over 3 months. Nor will I forget the Canadian guy from BC with his own moving company. He used to work on cruise ships and was full of crazy stories. There was a French Man who lives in Taiwan, but works for a company that is helping to build up the KTX. An other American who lives in Beijing as a marketing consultant.
And then there was the staff. European and Filipino alike were awesome and damned good at their job. On my last day our Dannish friend held a party for the staff and guests to thank them for the extra consideration they gave her because of her age. It was a great time and when ended up drinking with much of the staff well into the night.
I went shopping after the ATM started working and I ended buying many gifts despite my intention of only buying a proper gift for my head teacher. I also noticed that the convenience store next door had some shells and hand carved items. I picked up a nautilius shell, which was rather tricky to get home without breaking. I am facinated with Nautilius' because they are truely ancient and are often called a living fossil. I also picked up a
Golden Cowery and some carved masks.
Alona Beach made me appreciate the small stuff while diving. All too often we are obessed
with seeing the Turtles, Dolpines, Sharks, Whales, Mermaids, etcs. The guides at Genesis showed us a lot of the small stuff. From funny looking shrimp to brightly colored Nudibranch. Nudibranches are sea slugs that are often brightly colored. At first I was skeptical, but byhe end I was excited to find a new one. I suspect this is the same way I would feel about bird watching or Pokemon, if I were so inclinded.
I also rented their digital camera and got some kick ass videos.
