Regina Spektor

Just another post about yet another band that rocking my world. I first found out about Regina Spektor while half listening to NPR programs. As I was delivering pizzas at the time, I only knew I liked her music but I could hardly recall her name.

That changed when I was listening to the Live Music Podcast (a good way to get a condense idea of a how well a band preforms live) on my iPod. It was here that it all clicked and all of a sudden her songs where stuck in my head AND I remembered her name. Finally it was when I started watching videos of hers, like this one, (notice the teacher theme...) that i became smitten.

Songs like this (Same song at NPR where the quality is better) cause many to compare her to Tori Amos. But I think she distinguishes herself live in concert. I think I like Regina better live and I feel that I am one of the few guys out there that can say this with some measure of authority as I have seen Tori twice in concert. Besides, all the sources that I found writing about her seem to completely disregard what I see as respectable similarities to Ani DiFranco.

Further distinguishing her as class act are songs like That Time and Summer in the City that just break up her genuine sound and show off her deep musical talent. The visuals in videos like US, Fidelity, and Samson are striking an really show off her her banging skills. Whats more if I wasnt sold already she did this cover of "Little Boxes" for a comedy on Showtime.

I apologize if you if you have heard of her already, but for all I know some of her songs are all over Mtv and America's top 40. I hope I get the chance to seen her live someday, although I sure her next tour doesn't include a stop in Korea
