Pumpkins everywhere, small and large, including the white ghost pumpkins that make me laugh. Piles of squash in a jumble of different colors and shapes. The nice young cop who works the market beat standing with his coffee in front of one of the pastry stands, trying to decide between an apple fritter and a bear claw (I think he's working his way ( Read more... )

I am tempted to continue yammering on about the really good red pepper soup I made for dinner last night (with polenta croutons!), but upon sober consideration I think I've done enough obsesso-food-geek blithering for one day.

I'm thinking of an early MTV slogan here.

. . . and you're gonna have to tell me what it is, because this is my brain on lack-of-pop-culture-referents.

Should I know that? Because it doesn't sound the slightest bit familiar. Is this you being freaky-pop-culture-girl or me being incredibly out of it?

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with you being incredibly out of it. Sorry. Back when MTV used to play music videos it was one of their big slogans. They had commercials for MTV on MTV with various rock stars saying the phrase. It was a thing. In my head it's often said with the following pauses: "Too much. is never. enough." Sometimes with echoes after each part. But that was only one version of the commercial.

Huh. When would this have been? Because you know I only watched MTV for about three years, and that sporadically. I mean, I do know about the "I want my MTV" thing, so surely I get *some* credit.

Yes, yes, I was giving you credit for knowing "I want my MTV." (I knew you knew that.) As for when...um? Early to mid-80's sometime - I don't know. David Bowie was big. He did this phrase. Possibly also Mick Jagger. That's it. I'm putting the word out on the street: I want answers.
