More Vividcon reports - excellent! I am really enjoying reading about the panels and the vids and everyone's experience of Vividcon this year.
I'm curious, was there any sort of definitive feeling either way of how much to include as "liner notes" for a vid? My own gut reaction is to try to explain too much, to be absolutely sure people understand what I want them to see. But then, that's not being fair to the vid and undermines my own confidence in it.
Also had to say that I love the previous LJ entry you reference in this one. I'm glad that you linked to it; it was a great read and I found myself nodding in agreement through all of it.

Sadly, no -- I was hoping for something like that myself. A couple of people did mention that they like hearing about why a vidder chose a particular song, but the conversation never really got around to that kind of nuts-'n'-bolts.
The general consensus seemed to be that, as a rule, those of us in the room expected a vid to be able to stand on its own without explanation; that liner notes can be interesting supplementary material, as it were, and that we do frequently read them, but we generally read them *after* watching the vid.
I think this is where online vids and tape/DVD vids differ, to some extent; I never read explanations of vids online, and I've never gone back to find an explanation after watching the vid. So I'm not even entirely clear on what the relationship is between online explanations and tape-distribution liner notes.
So I'm unfamiliar with the conventions of vid tape liner notes, and it would have been helpful to me to see some examples in order to have something specific to discuss. I'm curious about liner notes now: how they're are usually written, what kinds of information viewers like to have in them.
I picked up those Media Cannibals tapes. The next time I visit I'll try to remember to bring the liner notes. Actually? I made a mental note to do this when you first mentioned being curious, but it's only now, weeks later as I browse back through posts looking for comments I missed, that it occurs to me to *tell* you I intend to do that. Because apparently I'm convinced that you're psychic. Also? If you get shallott et al.'s new DVD compilation, similar brief comments from the vidders are built right into the DVD in the menu. Nifty, eh? I can also bring that next time I see you, if you haven't already acquired it by then.
