upgrades

I've been slowly upgrading the computer for the past nine months or so, buying parts intermittently as NewEgg coupon codes came up. So far I've moved the old system to a new case and installed a SSD boot drive, higher-capacity data drive and vidding drives, Blu-ray drive, and more RAM. I've also picked up a power supply, external drive enclosure, CPU heatsink, and assorted new cables. (I am more excited about the cables than is probably reasonable.)

Today I vidded for the first time in a while, which reminded me why I've been doing these upgrades. I was waiting on the new Intel processor (which came out in June), and then my summer got kind of busy, but today the system finally officially choked (too many .avs files, too much hi-def source, who knows) and I said fuck it and ordered the rest of the components: CPU, motherboard, graphics card (which is probably the component I most needed to upgrade, honestly), RAM (round 1 -- I might get more later if there's enough space under the heatsink).

Whee!
