First:
vid_commentary is
running another commentary challenge, and the deadline for sign-ups has been extended until Sept. 17. I want to do a viewer commentary, but I'm still trying to decide what vid to comment on. I kind of want to do "
Burning Bridges," the amazing FNL vid that
sisabet made for me for this year's VVC auction, except I'm not sure I'm capable of commentary because that vid bypasses my brain and goes STRAIGHT TO MY HEART and so any commentary would basically be me pointing and flailing and saying YOU GUYS I LOVE THIS VID AND THIS SHOW AND THESE CHARACTERS SO MUCH. So, um. We will see.
Anyway! I am also taking requests for vidder commentaries on any of my vids. I have
done commentaries on a lot of my vids, but not all. I haven't, for example, done commentaries on "Goodbye" and "All We Have." Nor have I done a commentary for "The Test," though
killabeez did a
really amazing viewer commentary.
So if you want running commentary on any of my vids, or if you're curious about my vidding processes, difficulties, or goals (in general or in relation to a particular vid), post a comment! Let me know if there are questions you'd like me to answer, choices you'd like me to explain, or particular vid elements or moments you'd like me to talk about.
Day 12: Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" vid of a favorite media source but set in a different fandom? (I.e., attempted to bring the 'feel' or 'mood' of one source to a different fandom, like the zombie Mary Poppins vid.)
Nope. I think my brain just doesn't work that way.
obsessive24 and I had a conversation about this, years ago now -- about how some vidders approach source as directors and are willing to radically reshape or reinvent or reimagine the source, while some approach it as editors and pretty much work with what's there. I'm more of an editor; I get a kick out of turning subtext into text, finding and highlighting parallels, that sort of thing, but I'm not especially inventive. I'd rather distill the source than remake it.
