happy birthday to renenet!

Jul 18, 2011 11:30

In just a couple of months, it will be ten years since I sat down on
renenet's couch and said "So tell me about Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Which means that nine years ago is when
luminosity told me about VividCon and encouraged me to go, and I called
renenet and said "I'll go if you'll go." And now she's running the con! (You're welcome.)

I was thinking about
renenet this weekend as I was cleaning the house with pop music blasting from the stereo, a habit I acquired when the two of us shared a house the summer after I graduated from college: we spent a weekend cleaning that house with Erasure's greatest hits CD on infinite loop at top volume. Possibly more than one weekend. The house needed it.

We were friends long before we found fandom, and we've got the stories to prove it (turkey defrosted in bathtub! post-op visit! wacky London hijinks! please leave your message at the sound of the elk!). But fandom sealed the deal, took us from friendship to Friendship With Superpowers™, and I am so, so grateful for that, even if these days we spend more time talking about the bureaucratic details of fannish activity than we do about actual shows. (That said, the thing about the badge holders on sale was legitimately awesome.)

All of which is to say: Happy birthday,
renenet. You're still my favorite. I'm already excited for our next media marathon, whatever it may be, complete with oreos, root beer, and ridiculousness. ♥
