Friday I drove to The Big City and stayed over with
lapillus and
jackiekjono, and when I woke up yesterday morning there was something like 8 inches of snow, with more coming down. Then yesterday I drove all day through the storm responsible for the aforementioned snow (that would be the storm that ended up collapsing the Minneapolis Metrodome roof) and showed up on the doorstep of
truepenny and
mirrorthaw.
mirrorthaw made a yummy dinner, the formerly feral ninja cats (with whom I was well acquainted in their youth) showed signs of recognizing me (signs which did not extend as far as being sociable, but one takes what one can get), I told horror stories from the semester (I'm always a veritable fount of those at this time of year),
truepenny gave me some backstory on her horse, and we all chatted about assorted books. And then we all watched the first two episodes of Castle and discussed the forthcoming
Joss-less Buffy movie (verdict: OMG WHY).
When I woke up this morning I finished The Queen of Attolia, contemplated the 6-8 inches of snow that had followed me down from the northwest, ate apricot twists for breakfast, drank some of the vast quantities of milk that
mirrorthaw had kindly procured for me, and reveled in the fact that I don't have to grade any papers today. The reveling will be ongoing for the next several days, actually.
Other plans include eating good food, watching more TV, going to see The Tempest, visiting
truepenny's horse, supporting assorted local bookstores and record stores, attending terrific concerts, and lazing about. Which is pretty much my ideal winter holiday, really.
Well, except the part about driving through a blizzard to get here. But, you know, I had a car with all-wheel drive, a couple bottles of water, and an iPod with 60+ GB of music, so -- whatever, it's winter in the upper midwest; you can either deal with it or never leave your house. ::shrug::
