five -- no, six -- things make a post

1. The only problem with visiting truepenny and mirrorthaw is that my book collection begins to seem profoundly inadequate.

2. The flip side of #1 is that going bookstore trolling with truepenny usually makes me feel extremely virtuous, since no matter how many books I buy, she nearly always buys more.

3. Related to #2, I have purchased books at four indie bookstores in the last 48 hours. This has been happymaking both for me and, I think, for the stores in question. Heh. Thank goodness I already had plans to build more shelves over break.

4. Speaking of indie bookstores, there's nothing like walking into one's favorite bookstore (and former employer) and finding books by four of one's friends to confirm that one has awesome friends (and an awesome former employer).

5. One of the many other delights of visiting truepenny and mirrorthaw is that I am always very well fed. Yesterday: Thai curry and noodles for lunch and Russian dumplings for dinner. And this is after a weekend of very nice food, including quite good Mexican food and superlative holiday treats, while staying with the grrly grrl.

6. On Sunday, I talked the grrly grrl (who is not actually fannish, but does a pretty good facsimile of fannishness) into watching the new Star Trek movie with me. Apparently she had the TV turned to some sort of nature channel, because when she turned on the TV there was a fuzzy baby penguin, which led to the following exchange:

here's luck: Penguins!
the grrly grrl: Sorry, no penguins in space.

...at which point she put the DVD in the player while I collapsed on the couch howling with laughter. It was the deadpan delivery! Maybe you had to be there, or maybe I'm just loopy because it's the end of the semester, but seriously, I have not laughed so hard in weeks.

movie: stxi, geekery, house of geeks, books
