A week or so ago, I got The New Computer put together, and...to make a long and boring story short if not interesting, I discovered that the motherboard wasn't working.
Argh.
I will say this: at least it was quick. I hadn't even gotten the OS installed.
Also: ASUS online tech support is impenetrable and useless, but their phone support is quick and sympathetic. I called yesterday morning and got a nice young guy on the line:
here's luck: My new motherboard's dead. It's under warranty and I need to get it replaced.
nice young guy: Okay. Can you tell me what troubleshooting steps you went through to test it?
h.l: Sure. [insert long, detailed explanation of the twelve different troubleshooting maneuvers undertaken]
nyg: [pause] Wow. [longer pause] You really did try everything.
h.l: Yep.
nyg: Um. Okay. I have to send you this email with a couple more things to try, and then when they don't work you can call the RMA number and they'll tell you what to do about sending it back.
h.l: Okay.
nyg: Jeez, I'm sorry. Is this a brand-new build or are you upgrading?
h.l: New build.
nyg: Man, that sucks.
h.l: I totally agree.
So I tried the last couple of tests (nothing - quelle surprise), called for an RMA, and mailed the board off this morning.
It'll take at least ten days for the new board to reach me, during which time I'm going to be sublimating my vidding urges by a) working frantically on clip databases (LotR is calling my name - I'm now totally conditioned to watch those movies in November); b) finishing
f1renze's scarf and
renenet's hood; c) visiting
truepenny; d) visiting
renenet; and e) poking
sisabet to tell me more about OUR VID OMG!!!
It's starting to feel like my creativity is going to curdle if I don't do something with it soon. I know this isn't actually true, it just, well, feels like it. Gah.
