farmers' market: tomatillos!

Sep 21, 2004 21:48

I had a very long, very strange day, after which the only appropriate way to stabilize my mental state was by buying a lot of vegetables.

Well, it made sense at the time.

Tomatillos (green salsa!), tomatoes (green zebra, black zebra, black russian, flammé, and of course wapsipinicon peach, which I thought were all gone but the farmer had saved four little ones back for me), red oak lettuce, green beans, big red peppers, eggplant and chard (for eggplant and chard lasagne), yellow potatoes, and garlic. Mmmm, garlic.

I'm really happy about these tomatillos; I have a new Mexican cookbook that has several different green salsa recipes that I'm looking forward to trying. Oh, and lasagne! I like lasagne. I think I'll make another batch of green beans with coconut and sesame this week, or maybe spicy green beans with tomatoes and garlic. Not sure yet what I'm going to do with the peppers; possibly just put them in salad with the lettuce and tomatoes.

Okay. I feel better now. I have vegetables. A full fridge and a full shelf of books to read go a long way towards making the world feel manageable.
