vids!
I am feeling really, really good about vidding right now, partly because I'm feeling good about life for reasons that I'll cover in a separate post, but also because:
1. renenet (finally) sent me beta comments on the Donnie Darko vid draft. And having cast a critical eye over the draft myself (I haven't watched it in three weeks), I see that she is right about stuff, as always, and also I see some problems she didn't mention. But: they feel like things I can fix. Frequently the enormity of the problems with my drafts makes me want to curl up on the couch and weep. Right now, I feel exhilarated rather than overwhelmed. Let's hope it lasts.
2. I had a vid idea for Wonderfalls last night. I don't know whether I can execute it given the available source, but the idea is sound. I had it last night while brushing my teeth, which is always fun, but those ideas usually have to be discarded after consideration under the harsh light of day, because... how can I say this... they usually suck. This idea does not suck. I'm pretty sure it doesn't, anyway. And having finally watched the last ep this week (yes, I was in denial, shut up), I am really psyched to try to vid this show. Also, still bitter. FOX is evil. But: vid!
3. I have come to a(nother) decision about the LotR vid. I am not going to start clipping, much less laying clips, until the RotK EE DVD comes out. I will continue to compile the clip database I've started, and I'm going to continue to hack away at the audio file. But - this is the other part of the decision - I'm not going to attempt to get the audio down to "a reasonable length," i.e. 4 - 5 minutes. I am going to cut the music as best I can into something that retains some of the shape and scope of the original. If that means it turns out to be 8 minutes long, so be it; it just won't be a con vid. I can live with that.
4. Every time I work on the Firefly clip database, I get so excited about this vid that I can hardly concentrate. I don't know if I'm going to be able to make the vid I see in my head, but I know it's worth trying.
5. renenet's AtS S1 DVDs, which I've been borrowing for months and months now, have been requested by another party, so I need to do some clipping from them this afternoon, just in case I get inspired to work on the Buffy/Angel vid (yes, you read that right, although it may not mean what you think it means) before I can get my hands on them again. And just thinking about that vid makes me want to work on the other BtVS vid I have in the works.
6. My Farscape vid song came up in a random .mp3 rotation a couple of days ago. I am still convinced that it is the most perfect song ever. I have no idea how I'm going to vid it, but I will think of something. Oh yes I will. And I may have a secondary song now too. Hot damn.
If anybody wants to ghost-write the current dissertation chapter for me so that I can spend the next three weeks doing nothing but vidding, that would be just fine with me.
