School has been in full swing for some weeks now. Not to put too fine a point on it, I've been slacking like nobody's business on that front. Much of what is being covered now I've already (mostly) done at the undergrad level, which is perhaps an indication of the pedagogical depth of a British university versus the oh-study-anything-you-want-we-love-diversity stereotypical American method (this is not a comment on the effectiveness of either method).

Or perhaps I'm just being insufferably arrogant and complacent, haha.

Things are very different here in some ways, but I think there is a certain universality of experience with regards to actual academics - the classes, the problem sets, the people trying to rip off my homework (long story, and I'll just get angry again writing about it).

I can already tell that the campus will be beautiful when autumn is properly here - the leaves are just beginning to turn gold now, though the weather still can't make up its mind. I'm well prepared for the famed East Coast freeze, anyway - boots, down coat, the lot. Isn't online shopping awesome?

Anyway, since my last entry a ton of stuff has happened - I visited Boston and had my first taste of travelling within the US (Boston was lovely), I watched a game of college football (very interesting, and I sort of managed to figure out how it's played by the end), I got to see the inside of a frat house (dubiously sticky floors), I watched a production at the Yale Repertory (Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov) - among other things.

I've been here more than a month now and am already very fond of New Haven, but sometimes when I'm having trouble falling asleep at night I take myself back to familiar places in London - picking my way through the grimy streets of Whitechapel on a rainy day, grabbing lunch from the Subway across the road from LSE, countless late night/early morning bus rides to Gatwick or Luton or Stansted to catch planes that took me everywhere...oh, I'll definitely go back someday.

Meanwhile - problem sets beckon. Oh what exciting Saturday nights I have. Next weekend I plan to be in NYC, for sure.
