Several years ago, I randomly stumbled upon old episodes of the now-defunct soap opera
Ryan's Hope on SoapNet. I watched the half-hour soap, of which SoapNet air two episodes back-to-back, for several months before I just stopped. I think when I first started watching it, the episodes were from around 1978 or 1979. The thing I loved the most about it was how low-budget and not-slick it was. The way it was filmed, the sets, the acting...it just had this charm about it that I really loved.
In the past month or so, I started watching it again. This time, I picked up with episodes from early 1976, which is great because at that point, the show had only been on for about 8 months. I'm loving every minute of it. SoapNet airs the show at 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., so I'm obviously DVRing it. It's now what I watch when I get home from work, usually while I'm eating dinner and I just find it so relaxing. I really wish SoapNet would air REALLY old episodes of other soaps. Even better...I wish they'd air episodes of another old, cancelled soap that I watched as a kid called
Capitol. I don't watch soaps anymore, but it would be so much fun to watch the old episodes from the 80s, which is when I was really into them.
Anyway...enough of my randomness.
