Folk Metal Sunday: Arkona - "Slovo"
Continuing with our awesome-bands-playing-at-London-Heidenfest theme, I bring you a brand new song from the upcoming album by Russian metallers, Arkona. According to YouTube this song is "Slovo" (from where the album takes its name), but as the album doesn't actually come out until the 26th of this month I don't know for sure. Boo! That means it comes out the day after I go to America! I'll have to wait 2 weeks before I can buy it and listen ... unless I can find it in the States. Hmmm. How popular are they likely to be over there?
Anyway. The song. IS AMAZING. Oh my. I've only listened to it a handful of times, but I'm absoloutly blown away by it. From Masha's roar at the beginning - oh my freaking gods I love female roarers - to the big, all consuming build up at approx 2 minutes in and the male choir at approx 4:20, this is just an epic track. The guitars are a bit raw, which is a shame because they tend to drown out the other instruments and, at times, her fantastic voice - but otherwise, I likey this very muchly.
