Folk Metal Sunday: Equilibrium - "Blut im Auge"

Right - I'm away next Sunday, so this week's song will have to last you. And it is a GOOD song. I mean they're all good songs, obviously, but this is a pretty awesome one. :)

I stumbled across Equilibrium a couple of years ago, completely by accident, and only took an interest because someone described them as "blackened folk" - a mixture of two of my favourite genres. This was with their debut album, Turis Fratyr. The black metal element isn't really that obvious, as it turns out; I'm more inclined to say symphonic. Blackened symphonic folk. Y/n? :P Genre buggery...

Anyways. Equilibrium have a really, really fantastic sound. Speaking of the first two albums (with original vocalist, my beloved Helge Stang - he has since left the band, and I'm not so keen on the new guy), Equilibrium's sound combines beautiful snarling vocals (Helge really could roar like that live - I had the pleasure of seeing them at Bloodstock), soaring instrumentals and, of course, a goodly amount of folk jiggery. Ha. They are from Germany (Saxons ftw), and as such their songs feature Germanic mythology quite heavily. I love this song the best because right from the first it just grabs hold of you and runs. Definately one of my all time favourite songs.
