Folk Metal Sunday: Mael Mórdha - "Winds Of One Thousand Winters"

May 23, 2011 23:47

Whoa! I missed Sunday again. Having spent the past 3 days in Wales I seem to have lost all track of time. It was so good to be back there, though. I know it's fashionable to mock the Welsh, but I love the country and I'm not afraid to say it. Ha! Also, why do us English get so snobby about them speaking Welsh? It's their language. We don't go abroad and expect everyone to speak English ... oh no, wait, yes we do. Fail. If anything, the Welsh are closer to being the indigenous people of Britain than we are. We're mostly Saxon. The snide comments just irritate me, that's all.

...Rant over. On to the metal!

Naturally, I needed a Celtic folk metal band for this weeks offering. I can't actually find any Welsh bands (are there any? Do drop me a note if so...), so have some Irish metal instead.

I have only recently started listening to Mael Mórdha, but I'm liking what I've heard so far. They combine Irish folk with doom metal, which is a new one for me, and were formed in Dublin 13 years ago. This is my favourite song of theirs at the moment, I really like the intro and the piano pieces.
