Folk Metal Sunday: Týr - "Ormurin Langi"

May 08, 2011 14:45

Oki, so I missed last Sunday's post because I was busy, and by the time I stopped being busy it was Wednesday ... so I figured I'd just keep quiet and hope no one would notice. :P Anyway, as a forfeit for slacking in my devotion to the cause, here is some Viking themed folk metal from the Faroe Islands. I am sorry, my Saxons. For today I have failed you.

Týr are kind of a weird band, for me, because they don't look like my brain thinks they should sound. The track I've chosen today is one of their folkier tunes, but they don't really inhabit the excessively-jaunty realms that you usually associate with folk metal. Never-the-less, they are pretty awesome.

I love this song mostly because, as I say, it's quite folky; it's a metal version of a traditional Faeroese song, sung in the Faeroese language. I don't understand a thing they're saying, but I love the sound of the words. Especially with the emphasis on the R's. Mmm. I love me some heavily rolled R's. :D

I don't think this is an official video, I think it's fan made; correct me if I'm wrong.
