Songs What I Does Like: Chapter Fourteen

Jan 10, 2014 16:46

Gah! I haven't made one of these posts since October. This is a bit of a bumper-edition, and that's still with me withholding most of the songs I wanted to share - I'll put them in the next post! THERE IS SO MUCH GOOD MUSIC AROUND. <3

"Mit dem Wind", Faun (listen here)
Pagan folk / medieval
Germany
I double dare you to resist the urge to dance to this song! It's glorious. I know that this album from Faun has come under fire from their fans - who believe that the band have 'sold out' by making a more accessible, folky album - but I adore each and every song on it. It's just so uplifting, and a lot of fun to listen to!

"Farewell," Avantasia feat. Sharon den Adel (listen here)
Power metal / symphonic metal
Germany
GAH. The opening melody just gets me right here; it has this weird kind of tragic beauty to it. I'm not massively sold on the male vocals, but when the track also features Within Temptation's beautiful songstress, Sharon den Adel, I don't mind it so much. ;)

"Save Me," Dark Sarah (listen here)
Theatrical / symphonic metal
Finland
I don't know how I feel about this! I was a major fan of Heidi Parviainen's vocals when she was the singer for Amberian Dawn; she was probably my favourite female vocalist, along with Louisa of Dyonisis (Louisa is the soprano and backing singer. Nel is the main vocalist; I love her voice, too!). So I was really excited to see that she now has her own solo project. Unfortunately ... I really want to love this, but it feels a little like when Tarja went solo, you know? It just lacks something. That aside, it certainly isn't a bad song. :)

"Strangely Beautiful," Amethystium (listen here)
Electronia / ambient / neoclassical
Norway
I'm really loving the dreamy, ambient stuff at the moment; I find it very good background music for writing or drawing to. This one is just ... well, it melts my little black heart. :) The female 'vocals' (she's basically humming - are those still called vocals? I love music, but I know bugger all about the terminology :P) are just a lovely addition to an already gorgeous track.

"Engae Pogudho Vaanam", Allah-Rakha Rahman / Kochadaiiyaan (listen here)
Soundtrack
India
I literally have no idea what is going on here, but this song 100% appeals to my love of the epic and for that I adore it. <3 I think this is a song from a film called Kochadaiiyaan? Or a soon-to-be-released film? And the song itself is written and/or performed by Allah-Rakha Rahman? If anyone can fix my ignorance here, please do so...

"Winds Are Silent", Elvin's Tales (listen here)
Pagan folk
Estonia (I think?)
I rather like this mix of ancient/medieval style music with a more modern, rock edge. The female vocalist has an exceptionally sweet voice, too, although I find that her pronunciation isn't that clear - but it's such a pretty sound I don't really might that I can't make out all the words!

"Bird Seeds of Vengeance", Hatebeak (listen here)
Death metal
USA
One for you, meri_sielu ... the vocalist of this band is a parrot. I'm just going to leave that here. :P

"Last Vestige of Old Joy," Nest (listen here)
Neofolk / dark ambient
Finland
Well, I'm in love. The lyrics of this song accompanied an image from a photographer whose work I admire and, out of curiosity, I looked it up. I had heard the band's name before, but didn't know their sound. As it turns out, this is a major failure on my part because they are beautiful! I love that dreamscape style so much. According to their Wiki page, their inspiration comes from "old folk and animal tales, as well as from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and the Grimm Brothers". Yes please. <3

"The Silvershade Lynx," Nest (listen here)
Neofolk / dark ambient
Finland
Yes, I'm sharing the same band twice in one post. I don't even care. I listened to this one based purely on the song title (lynx! <3) and it did not let me down. It's the kind of music that just pours into me and fills me up; I don't have the words to describe it. I also love the lynx's snarl at approx 0:43 (can you hear it?). :)

songs what i does like, hahaha whut, music: folk, music: new age, music: metal as fuck
