[ rl with Elektra + Owen : cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear ]

There was little in her life that Candy actually had to be grateful for, but the one thing above all others were her new friends on the community. The people had all become like a family to Candy, and whether they liked it or not she was a pretty permanent fixture in their lives. That's why whenever one was hurt or in danger she could do nothing ( Read more... )

Of course if you asked Elektra she wasn't kidnapped. She just found a lull in her day, decided to spend it with Candy, and hey why not include Owen? He was always a source of entertainment. Deep down she was worrying too. She had gotten attached to someone who was even more of tragedy than she was. Unlike with Rita there was no one willing to give her the information she needed to guarantee things ended differently. It was a pain to say the least.

But that wasn't something she wanted to focus on right now. She just wanted to be here with them and blow off steam. It was just like she told Bruce; it was these moments together that would make even a dark future worth living.

With that in mind, Elektra flashed a winning smile at her younger companion as she prepared drinks. "You know when Owen finally gets in here we need to make a big deal out of it," she said jokingly. "We should have grabbed a welcome home banner at the store."

It was unusual for Owen to stay so late at the Hub; he usually liked to be out of there when the usual workday was over. Tonight, though, he'd had to stay later than usual, working on medical studies and doublechecking Retcon dosages. Just in case, he'd thought, even if it was more because Jack had asked him to.

Still, it turned out that staying late was a good idea; he'd taken long enough to get home that, somehow, two lovely women had managed to break in and start making drinks. When he managed to open the door and enter, finding Elektra and Candy in his flat - he almost had a heart attack, though he hid it well. "Jesus," he muttered, raising a brow at them, "Don't you know not to break into a man's flat?"

Now that you mention it, Elektra, Candy definitely thought a 'welcome home' banner might have been perfect for this situation. But before she could even answer the statement there's the sound of keys in the door and a young man standing in the doorway. Candy was a little disappointed he didn't show that he almost had a heart attack. She'd really been looking forward to that.

Instead of answering Elektra Candy turned back to the drinks to finish pouring the last of the three, passing one to Elektra and holding another out for Owen. She then slipped her hand into her pocket and pulled out the lonely key on her keychain and flashed a grin.

"It's not breaking in if I have a key, just so you know. Welcome home!"

Elektra was a little let down by his reaction as well. Half the fun of showing up unannounced somewhere was the reactions it got. She was not here for humorous reactions... at least not yet. She fully expected by the end of the night to have plenty to keep her amused for a while.

Elektra raised the drink and smiled brightly at Owen. Yes, she was going to make a big deal about him being here with or without the banner. "Welcome home!" Her voice lowered, clearly amused. "And it's just like she said. You gave her a key now you have to deal with the consequences of it. Like sitting here with us and drinking for example."

Owen was secretly pleased he hadn't let them know how much they'd startled them, judging by the looks on their faces. He was still a little sideswiped by the whole situation, but that didn't mean he was too dumbstruck to take the drink Candy was offering him, not even knowing or caring what kind of alcohol it had. He took a swig and looked from Candy to Elektra, then back again.

"Yeah, well." He shrugged, making a face, "If I'd known you'd be using it to pay me visits, I would've left a grocery list and my laundry for you."

"You say that like I would have done either," Candy remarked as she took up her own glass and shoved her key back in her pocket. She moved to sit on the couch now, clearly making herself comfortable. Really, Owen didn't have an opportunity to reject their forced offer to hang out.

"I did bring you alcohol, though," She added as she took a drink of her own glass. "So you really can't complain too much."

"Would you really want either us going through your laundry?" She remarked casually before following after Candy. Getting comfortable seemed like a great idea especially since it looked like Owen wasn't going to try kicking them out. Not that it would work but, they might have had to indulge him for a minute.

"You should be happy we came with gifts. Not everyone gets to come home to smiling faces and gifts." She settled down on the couch, sipping her drink casually.

Raising a brow, Owen took himself and his drink over to the chair next to the couch, taking another healthy drink from his cup. "Suppose not. The last thing is for you to get your hands on my literal dirty laundry." He looked them both over again, then reached for the remote. He wasn't too much for conversation, lately, and worse came to worse, it'd provide him with a way to get out of any awkward situations. He knew those would come up.

"And anyway, I doubt you brought me the alcohol, Candy. I'm pretty sure Elektra's the only one of you who can actually purchase the stuff." And knew what to get, for that matter. He paused. "So then, why are we breaking into my flat now? Just for drinks?"

"It was my idea, so it still counts," She laughed. Though it was true. She did need Elektra to buy the alcohol. After all, her fake id did only say 18. She wasn't entirely sure she could convince anyone she was 21. Not that it really mattered when she had such good friends anyway.

At least Owen was giving them a chance so far, though. Candy had almost expected some fighting and threats to throw them out of the apartment, neither of which had happened yet. So that was a good sign so far.

"And we're bringing drinks to your flat because we all need a break from life in general. Hanging out and having a normal conversation for once might actually help." She hoped.

Elektra took a sip of her drink before nodding in agreement. Everyone in their pseudo family needed a long vacation from their lives and potential damning futures. For now they were just going to focus their efforts on Owen. One problem at a time.

"Look I don't know about you but, I'm getting sick of all of that." Naming the problem wouldn't help their cause so she glossed over it. Owen would know what she was talking about. "I want to enjoy the present. Right now I think all of our presents are pretty good. We are in a nice place with decent company and good drinks."

Owen raised his drink to the two of them, nodding. "Cheers to that. Last thing I need right now is anything abnormal. I get plenty of that at Torchwood, thanks." And he didn't want to start talking about how he'd had a sit-down with Tosh, and now both of them were bracing themselves against the inevitable. "But," he added, looking at Candy, "I hope you're not planning on bringing on another hangover. Didn't seem like you liked the last one all that much."

Just the memory of that hangover was enough to make Candy shudder and eye the drink in her hand. "No, I wasn't planning on getting that drunk again," She commented, giving him a bit of a look at that for even reminding her of it. Still, the events of that night remained mostly a secret to everyone but the two girls in the room.

"But if you get that drunk," She continued before pausing to take another drink. "I'm not taking care of you. Just so you are aware," She smirked.

Elektra couldn't help smirking at that. Rationally she knew it was irresponsible to let a fifteen get drunk and party with her. Hell it was irresponsible to leave the house without Stravos following after her to guarantee her safety at all times. The rest of Elektra just wanted to have a night of fun with one of her best friends who happened to be fifteen. With her mother on the community though she'd probably have to find a middle ground at least for tonight.

"I don't think either of us want a repeat but," Elektra glanced at Owen, green eyes flashing mischievously, "I wouldn't judge you if you wanted to give it a shot. We did have a good time hangover or not."

Owen was seriously considering it; though he really didn't want to go full tilt and end up with a migraine the next day, drinking was becoming a really good way for him to get out of the mood the last few... well, the last few months had him in. He knew that wasn't particularly healthy, but he was going to die. He was allowed this luxury.

"Yeah, well, I don't need people taking care of me when I get that drunk," Owen replied to Candy, "I'm used to doing it on my own. And anyway, I don't think you'll quite be able to keep up with me." That was maybe to Elektra, too, but he was more sure that Candy was more of a lightweight than the other woman, and the last thing he needed was a drinking contest with Elektra. Knowing his luck, he'd get trounced.

At the second comment candy made a slight face at the idea of trying to keep up with Owen. "I'm not even sure I want to give that a shot," She laughed a little before taking another drink from her own glass. Despite the one night with Elektra, Candy really didn't drink a lot. Just here and there. She couldn't deny she sort of liked the taste of it, and that it made her feel a little lighter some times.

"Do you have any music?" She offered as well. "Sorry, but I need a little something nice in the background to focus in on if you get too boring." It's only a light tease, really. If Owen did want to get serious she'd only listen to every word like they might be his last. A dark thought she didn't want to humor, though, so another drink it was.

Elektra laughed in response. Truthfully, she rarely drank. It really did not work out with her lifestyle of work and training. If it weren't for the social events her father had her go to for work and appearance, she might have never drank.

"I know when I'm dealing with a master." She smiled playfully. "But, I'd take you on. It's the principle of the matter." Elektra took a sip of her drink. "That's a question. What kind of music would Owen have?"
