rl: it's a party in here! ( owen's bday party ;; forward dated to the 14th )

When you've got Candy's enthusiasm, Elektra's money (and added enthusiasm), and a warm place to celebrate, you really should expect something big.

Although Candy's gone through efforts not to make things too extravagant, she couldn't help but decorate a little. Upon arriving to the house everyone's greeted by the sights of some cheap lanterns Candy ( Read more... )

The house opens up to a nice view of the ocean.

The back of the house is decorated with the same lanterns as the front, as well as some light colored furniture to relax on. The door is constantly open to back here, so even if you step outside you can hear the music and the chatter.

The weather is a lovely 65 at the least at night. 70 if you're lucky. It's a nice place to come out and relax on, away from the noise.

[Considering Owen's not much for birthdays, it's a miracle he manages to last as long as he does before he ducks outside for a breather. He'd slink off to the bedroom, but he knows Candy would hunt him out, so at least he's... pretending to be part of the festivities right now?

He's also got a drink in hand, so. There's that. It doesn't look like he's enjoying it much, though, with all that obnoxious thinking he looks to be doing.]

[Ianto ducks out of the party to try and get some fresh air as well. He would hide in the bedroom, but that's awkward, and the night air will be so much more refreshing, so he finds himself on the patio. He stands at the door, sighing for a moment, shutting his eyes and collecting himself. He should probably get going soon. He's got plans for later, after all, and he should probably have at least half an hour to sober up (or to drink more, depending) before Sulu shows up.

He's slightly surprised to find that Owen's out there too, when he opens his eyes, but not really. Quietly, Ianto makes his way over to stand next to Owen, looking out at the ocean and the lights reflected off of it. When he speaks, his voice is soft] Hey.

[Owen had been trying a bit to avoid Ianto and Jack; it wasn't that he wasn't glad to see them, he was... it just. Ianto looked too old, and he knew he wasn't going to get to see the development that got him to this point in his life.

He doesn't look at Ianto when he hears him speak up, though that part of him that wants to talk to Ianto - about the whole thing, the dying and all - really wants him to. He settles for repeating the greeting.] Hey.

[Ianto nods, not turning to look at Owen quite yet, just standing there beside him. He knows how weird this is for Owen, at least somewhat. It's weird for him, too. To see Owen, after two years of having him gone, and have him not changed at all... It was jarring.]

[idly] Candy seems to've gone all-out on this party, then.

Yeah, well. [He gives a short laugh.] Wants to celebrate my life, and all. 'S a pretty good party, I suppose. [For a going away party. He doesn't say that, though. Just like he doesn't say that he's glad Ianto and Jack came, even if he's been avoiding them.] Candy likes to do these kinds of things.

[Ianto nodded] It is your birthday, after all. That's generally what people do on birthdays... [Not that they did at Torchwood. Then again, any day alive at Torchwood was a good day, so. No complaining there, really]

Miami's nice, too. Never been to Florida, before.

Me neither. Not much for the beach. [Owen almost doesn't want to quit with the smalltalk - it's nice. It puts him off thinking about the reason this is so awkward, about how he needs to talk to Candy at some point, get everything organized - ugh.]

So. [He pauses, breathes.] Why's it that I want to talk to you about dying, and not Jack? [He's not expecting a real answer. It's just what comes out, the easiest way to get this over with.]

[Ianto shuts his eyes for a moment, sighing, having known that this conversation would be coming. 'Because you still remember somehow the fact that I died as well' isn't quite the best of responses, especially since Owen's really not supposed to remember any of that at all.]

Dunno. I suppose it's different, with Jack. He... He doesn't ever stay gone, for long. Maybe your subconscious is just extra aware of that fact...

Yeah, maybe. [His subconscious was aware of it; it was aware of a lot of things, but he didn't remember them so it was easy to file it away and forget about it. He looks over at Ianto after a long moment.]

This isn't going to be fun, is it? [Like he needs to hear the answer to that.]

Well... [Ianto keeps his eyes averted from the other man for a little bit longer] That depends on what you mean by "this" exactly...

This. [He gestures vaguely, like the whole world's his problem.] I don't even know what's waiting for me, so. Leaving all of this isn't going to be fun. [It'll be bloody terrifying.]

[Ianto stands there for a moment, silent. What does Owen want him to say, exactly? What can he say? Dying is actually pretty shite. Ianto knows that first hand. Knowing that you're going to die, well. They all know that that's a possibility every day they go into work. Owen's case is just a little more certain than that.]

[Owen presses on when Ianto's silent, deciding that if Ianto's going to let him walk all over him like this, he's going to keep on doing it.] After what Suzie said, though. I'm not expecting anything nice. And I probably should've retconned myself, back when I found out it was going to happen, because what if I do something stupid, like decide not to take that particular risk? God, what if I do? ... [He doesn't want to die. Sure, it's a possibility at Torchwood, but. This is a certainty, and he'd always expected to not see it coming.]

[Ianto chews on his lip for a moment] I. I can't tell you, Owen. I can't tell you how or when. You'll. You'll only regret knowing it, if you do. [Like he regretted knowing about Ianto's death. Except Ianto doesn't know about that bit, seeing as how he was dead at the time, and all.]

I don't want you to tell me. [That, at least, is something he's obviously convinced about.] I don't want to know what happens. I don't want to know how much longer is not too long. The natural order of things is that you don't know, and I want to try to be as goddamned normal as possible for however long I've got left.
