Whoa. It was a nice surprise to step on the scale this morning for my first weigh-in:
Start Weight: 164
Current Weight: 159
Weight Lost: 5 pounds
YAY! Although because of this - which apparently, WW considers a milestone - they took away one of my daily points! Before, I had 21 points a day; now I'm down to only 20. *pouts* This shouldn't be a hardship, though, as I still have 35 weekly points at my disposal, and I used only a fraction of them last week. (I used 7.5 of my Weekly Points, and also earned 10 Activity Points. I used most, but not all, of the APs). I'm going to try and increase my APs gradually. I went to the exercise room yesterday and rode one of the stationary bikes for half an hour; I'm going to try to do that at least a couple of times a week. Plus yoga. I need to get to a yoga class! In any case, I am enjoying the program. You're right,
happy_potterer, it really helps to keep track of *everything* that I eat. I'm still letting myself have the occasional "treat," but I'm also a lot more likely to choose something healthy. I have to ask myself if those potato chips (or eggroll, or glass of juice) are *really* worth the points. Most of the time, the answer is "no." So, I don't feel like I have to deprive myself. I am merely requiring myself to consider whether or not it's something I really enjoy and want. I'm surprised just how often I decide a certain food just doesn't taste good enough to warrant the use of points.
Speaking of juice, I've probably lost half of this weight just by cutting out the juice. It's worth a *lot* of points, so I'm pretty much just drinking water all the time. Which is healthier, anyway.
I also notice that I'm able to eat a lot less before I get full. Or, rather, I'm paying attention to when my body says "I'm full!" and then I stop eating. Two nights ago, I roasted a chicken, and I knew that dinner would be a big expenditure of points. I was okay with that. I even ate some of the skin (which is the whole reason for roasting a chicken, after all. Really, I think it's just about the only redeeming feature of chicken; boneless, skinless just doesn't turn my crank). I stuffed the chicken and ate stuffing. I was prepared to use up a BUNCH of my Weekly Points. I did try to do things in a healthier way; I basted the chicken in olive oil, instead of butter. I measured out one half cup of stuffing, and about 6 ounces of chicken. It looked like a reasonable amount of food. Half-way through, though, I realized that I was FULL. So I stopped eating, and put the rest in the fridge for lunch the following day. In ended up only using about 9 or 10 points on that meal, even though I'd given myself "permission" to spend more.
So, it seems that so far, this system is really working for me. YAY. Thanks,
happy_potterer for posting about your experience with WW, or it never would have occurred to me to try it.
I hit another milestone this week, too - on Monday, I finished Day 31 of FlyLady's BabySteps! I am FLYing! :D I feel really good about sticking with the program for a whole month, and my house looks SO much better than before I started. No, it's not completely clean and tidy all the time, but it is definitely under *control* now. I look around and see the kitchen is basically clean, the living room needs some tidying, but nothing that would take more than 10 minutes. The bedroom, also basically clean. My bathroom is pretty much spotless. It's a good feeling; I'm proud of myself and I think it's a much nicer environment for me and my family. :)
