A forestry/conservation guy came by today. I was thinking about planting some trees down by the river. He said I could do it if I wanted, they pay a portion, but the small meadow I was going to cover was just as important ecologically as a small stand of trees would be. So I'm going to leave it for now.
On the river I met a neighbour, Mona, who was also out in a canoe. She has a seasonal residence across the river and up a bit. We talked for a few minutes. It turns out that she had seen me go by on the way out and was waiting till I came back so we could talk. She didn't realise I'd be gone almost two hours.
