Robert Jordan (1948-2007)
Last year Robert Jordan was diagnosed with a heart condition and despite his best efforts it finally caught up with him yesterday. He was in the middle of his last Wheel of Time book, but didn't quite make it to the end. There are hopes that someone can use his notes to complete the book, but it's still too early to tell since it just happened yesterday.
I wasn't reading the WOT, so I don't really miss out on anything unless I decide to start, but I know there are people out there who may have dabbled in that series. This had been a big fear of mine with the Dark Tower, but King finally got things together and finnished his 25 year opus before anything else could happen to him after the van accident.
