Yes, shoulder-length-to-none is drastic. If you decide not to do it I certainly understand.

Lots of women seem to set up rituals when they say goodbye to all their long hair; candles, in the company of friends for support, step-by-step to soften the blow, etc. HOWEVER, if you really are committed to the idea and want to test your guts try this, especially if you only plan to do it once:

Get some guy who is real sweet on you, but you are totally NOT intersted in at all to tag along for your, ahem, "hair appointment." Go into a man's barbers shop if you are feeling really brave or even just a crowded salon and say nothing about your haircut to the boy. In fact, avoid the subject completely. Just chit-chat about nothing and kind of occaisionlly fiddle with your hair the whole time.

When it's your turn in the chair, tell the barber/stylist in a clear voice in front of the boy and other customers to shave your head bald. Watch the fun as the dude looks on in total horror at your transformation ;-) Afterwards, make out like it's a totally normal thing you just did, no big deal.

Obviously, don't try this if you think it's gonna damage the guy emotionally.
