So I had to go through a confined spaces training thing for work - it was rather depressing. A majority of fatalities in confined space accidents are people who see a friend/coworker having trouble or go down and try to save them. I can understand that in some scenarios, but I found this one to be particularly saddening (and told in shameless Netspeak for my own amusement):
So these four guys are assigned to clean out a waste tank on a chicken farm. Guy #1 goes down and starts shoveling.
Guy #1: Oh noez! Teh fumez!!
*Guy #1 passes out*
Guys #s 2, 3, and 4: OH NOEZ!!
Guy #4 runs to get help while Guys # 2 and 3 descend into the tank to try and put the s4v3z0rs on Guy #1. While they are trying to wrestle him up the ladder...
Guys #2 and 3: Oh noez! Teh fumez!!!
*Guys 2 and 3 pass out*
Guy #4 calls the fire department, then runs back to the tank, where he sees Guys 1, 2, and 3 unconscious at the bottom of the tank.
Guy #4: OH NOEZ!!!
Guy #4, of course, descends into the tank to try and put the s4v3z0rs on Guys 1, 2, and 3.
Guy #4: Oh noez! Teh fumez!!
Guy #4 passes out.
When the FD gets there, Guys 1 and 2 are already dead. Guy 3 dies on the way to the hospital.
People are so stupid sometimes.
