Bird Talk Customer Service Experience

Now that Bird Talk magazine is closed, it probably makes little difference, but this story is interesting in that the note sent out talked about the “sudden” closure of the magazine. Apparently Bow Tie Publications, inc., knew well before the announcement that they were closing. I’d sent in a renewal in June - they claim not to have gotten it until July and it was “cancelled”. They didn’t tell me. Didn’t notify me. I kept waiting for those letters that were supposed to go out, and finally today I called, only to be informed that the order had been cancelled.

If I’d sent money, or a credit card number, I wonder if they would have taken it, and then offered me a different magazine instead? It seemed odd not to notify a customer that a magazine was discontinued, especially if it was renewed using a post card from that same magazine.

Given my reservations about Reptiles magazine, which I’ve listed here before, I do have to wonder if there’s similar issues with other Bow Tie publications. And I have to say, that though I figured I’d asked if I could get Cat Fancy instead, that I’m thankful my order was cancelled, because I am not impressed with their customer service at all.
