Tenzin and Nermal enjoy a can of Wellness food.
Another week, another 27lbs of kitty litter around our house, or at least that’s the joke. Today we needed food, too, and with my mind swimming about cat food ingredients, recalls, and health issues, I stepped into the pet food store. And there it was…on sale…the bag of Friskies. With the jingle playing in my mind and images of cats jumping around and over technicolor tuna and turkeys, I bought it. I know, I know, bad bad kitty mama, buying food that came from one of the big name corporations and on sale to boot!
There are so many decisions to make when it comes to our pet’s food. For the most part, I try to move toward a healthier diet. For example, in the picture to the right, the kitties are enjoying Wellness food. If I remember right this picture was taken about the time I was feeding Tigger, our diabetic kitty, and he received grain-free cans of Wellness. (Nermal crossed the rainbow bridge in October 2011, and this picture was taken a few years prior to that. Tenzin is a happy, healthy four and a half year old.)
Whether you have a multi-cat or a single cat home, it can be tough to purchase the premium food our kitties need. And it can be tough, even among those brands, to find one that the kitties enjoy and that passes nutritional and veterinary muster. Here are some tips for buying cat food that will help you make sure your finicky (or not-so-finicky feline) is well fed:
