Roslin's Office, Friday Morning

Feb 23, 2007 14:03

After her "wake up call" from Bill, Laura finished her cup of coffee, showered, and dressed before heading over to the school. The day was cold and blustery; despite her time on New Caprica, she found herself chilled as she unlocked the door to the office. Once inside, she powered up the coffee pot left behind by a previous occupant, and started ( Read more... )

D was out and about much earlier than normal.

Which might have something to do with sharing her room for the last few days with her best friend.

Eventually she found her way down to the school and would have passed by Laura's office save for that she heard some wee noise from within.

She knocked on the door. "Professor Roslin?"

Laura was bent, somewhat un-ladylike, over a box as she sifted through some books. Giving a slight start, she turned toward the door, straightening and tossing her hair back out of her face. "Yes?"

D tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and shrugged. "I saw your door open and thought I'd say hello."

Laura stepped over a stack of books in the floor, ignoring the part of her that realized how much it was starting to look like the admiral's quarters, and flopped into her chair. She gestured to the empty one across from her. "Have a seat, if you'd like. I apologize for the mess; I'm gathering a few things to take back...home...with me."

Reaching behind her, she poured herself a cup of coffee. "Coffee?"

[Back in about an hour.]

D pulled her... wait no, not her jacket closer and stepped further into the office.

She transversed the books and took the seat offered, "yes, please. Coffee would be delightful."

She pulled a cup from the shelf under the coffee pot, and filled it, placing it before D'Anna. Beside it, she placed a small bowl of creamer and sugar. "Looking forward to the break?"

"Thank you." D lightly doctored her coffee and smiled. "Yes, I'm going with the cheerleading squad to a competition then I might see if one of my friends wants to go back home with me for the rest of the week. And you, ma'am?"

Laura shrugged. "Mixed emotions, I think. There's someone -- a few someones, actually -- who I'm looking forward to seeing. But there's also a bit of a political situation laying in wait. That part I'm not looking forward to." She sipped her coffee. "So where's the cheerleading squad headed this weekend?"

D half smirked. She was all about the mixed emotions this morning. "Are you in politics?" D asked before taking a sip of her coffee. It was possible her mind was slightly elsewhere.

"Someplace called Dan Dego? San Daygo?" D thought for a moment. "San Diego, maybe? I can't remember half the place names here most of the time."

"I was...at one time. I'd honestly thought I could leave that behind for a while." The corners of her mouth tipped upward into a rueful smile. "As far as San Diego, I completely understand. So many different cities and things to remember. And the history! I'll never get through it all." She chuckled. "Let the teacher become the student."

D pulled her knees up under her chin and rested her feet comfortably in the chair. She took another drink of coffee and smiled the unguarded and open smile of teen with not nearly as many worries as a post apocalyptic adult. "Do you ever wander what it'll be like when we go back home and tell people we've just returned from Earth? My family will think I've gone mental." She giggled.

Laura smiled. "To be honest, there are only a few people who know I'm here. Most think I'm simply on sabbatical. Which, in a way, I suppose I am."

"I think my parents thought the location was a joke." D shrugged. "I haven't really told anyone else. I never believed in Earth till I was here and now I can barely imagine leaving after graduation."

"I'm not sure I did, either. Not until a couple of years ago," Laura replied. "I started reading more of the scriptures, and eventually came to believe that it had to be more than a myth. And now..." She gestured to the office. "Here I am."

"I'm glad." D took another drink of coffee. "Cally and Anders are from back on Caprica or something, but they're two years behind me. You're the first teacher from home though."

"Well, maybe the second." She shuttered and not in a good way.

"The second?" Laura had long ago reasoned that there were several different realities clashing here, on this strange little island. That there might have been yet another Colonial here shouldn't have been that much of a surprise. She still found herself arching her brows.
