whoosh.
I got called into work today at 2:00. There were two surgeries and an emergency dog who had blood coming out of, like, every orifice. I got there and was instructed to run some blood work on said dog. I started programming in the information and all of a sudden got really nauseous. I asked Granville, another assistant, to finish it while I went to the bathroom. I took my pants off from under my scrubs. I was sweating like crazy and was actually green. My skin looked like a dead fish. I washed my face with some cold water and went back out. I started cleaning up from the surgery and I started feeling sick again. My legs felt like jelly. I told Nell I felt sick and ran into the break room to get some water. I sat down at the table and put my head down to collect myself.
I was suddenly spinning. Not spinning, but swinging. Except it wasn't going back and forth. The swinging came at an angle, went to the bottom, and then picked back up again from the top. I couldn't see anything. I didn't know where I was or what I was doing. All I knew was that I couldn't move and was blind and had previously been asleep. I knew I was somewhere public. I tried to move my arms. My head screamed at me, I couldn't move. I couldn't move. I couldn't move. I was nowhere.
Slowly the world came back. I felt like a lead weight. I was the heaviest thing in the world. I managed to open my eyes. Maybe they were already open. But things came back into focus. I knew where I was and what was happening. My face was pressed down onto the table. I was completely drenched. I tried to move and my muscles refused. I thought about yelling for help. I wanted to cry. Slowly I felt myself return, and I picked up my head, then the rest of my body. I stumbled out the door. Preston was leaving in his car. He gave me a funny wave. I stood there and he rolled down his window. I informed him I had just fainted. I don't really remember a whole lot other than someone gave me some water and I was so, so sweaty. It was beading on my arms and when I touched my forehead to my knee, a puddle formed on my pants. I looked like a zombie.
Preston called my mom and she took me to the doctor. They took some blood. They want to test me for diabetes and hypoglycemia and whatnot. Mostly because this is the third time in my life I have fainted for no reason. I ate breakfast and wasn't dehydrated. I ate plenty the night before and obviously am not on drugs. I felt totally fine this morning. The doctor asked if maybe it was something that grossed me out. I severely doubt it. I've seen so many repulsive things at that hospital and have never had a problem with them. Plus, I never even saw any of the animals. I walked in and was handed a test tube right away. There was a lot of blood on the floor, but blood doesn't gross me out.
I have to go back and take a 3-hour blood and urine test later this week. Not stoked.
It was really scary. I feel tired and weak now. I slept when I got home. I was afraid I would start falling again.
Even though this has happened before, it's really unpleasant. I wish I knew what was going on.
