But seriously - who the fuck expects sportsmen to be 'role models' for the community? It's a load of shit. They're doing a fucking job.

I don't buy into the argument that Australian professional sportspeople have this responsibility to be perfect citizens.

If seeing Ben Cousins inspires little Johnny to give crack a go, chances are little Johnny was already heading down that path. If not Ben Cousins, then a mate at school or something would plant that seed of curiousity.

I gotta agree. The only thing that I think that nation representatives should be held to account for is their public behaviour. If Ben Cousins wants to take drugs in his own home, then that's his business. If Ben Cousins makes a public statement that 'drugs are awesome' then I would tend to think he should get in a bit of trouble.

It's the use of fame (whether deliberately or inadvertently) to make a statement that I care about.

But then... 'the personal is political', as my mother says.

The problem is that "the people" are dumb and they should be drubbed.
