A friend and I were discussing photography the other day, why as an art form it has so much merit. I believe it's because anybody can grab a camera and take pictures. You don't need any formal training beyond being able to work the camera properly. You can, of course, take years of schooling in it and refine your technique, but it's not necessary. There are some people who have never learned much about photography nor any kind of visual art and yet can pick up a camera and take astonishing photographs the very first time.
She shared her theory with me. She said that a camera is just an extension of one's eye, that it captures not only what you see, but how you see. You may notice colours that other people don't, or see shapes in places others have overlooked, or maybe we all just have unique perspectives in general. Whatever it is, I agree with her. I think photographs capture our visual sense of the universe in a way that allows other people to see through our eyes. Sometimes that can be an amazing journey - especially when the photographer is seeing the universe in a dramatically different way than we are accustomed to seeing it. Do you ever notice how some photographers affect us more than others, and that different photographers' styles appeal to different viewers?
I like looking through your eyes. Your universe is beautiful. Keep on taking pictures of it, please.
i love the way you tell stories, so fluid. i have things to say, but not the time to write it right now. silly deadlines getting in the way of talking with my friends. =P
and sank you, sweetness. that's one of the nicest things you could say to me. i miss you, can i call you later?
i hope you are having a wonderful day.
much love.
ps. my roots are showing already. drat! black hair + red roots? not looking so natural anymore, lemme tell you.
