And so it would seem that the proposition which will attempt to make same-sex marriage unconstitutional will be on the November ballot. This is just another attempt to use the legal system to discriminate against a minority group.
This Sunday is the LA Pride parade, and I have plans to participate. I'm also going to vote come November, to help support rights for ALL human beings, no matter what sex, color, creed, or sexual preference. Remember, it may not be you this time... But what about next time?
Below, I've copied a quote from the German artist TOMBOY (of "OK 2B Gay" fame). Its a message he has posted on his website. I hope that this may provoke thought and understanding:
"Dear visitor
Thanks for visiting my web site!
I find that my album has split the world in two, wich means that you`re probably either a TOMBOY-lover or a TOMBOY-hater.
Eather way, I would like to share with you my reasons for releasing this album.
Since the age of 3 I`ve been discriminated. As a child it was difficult to understand why people spit and threw rocks at you or just beat you up.
We all need to feel that we belong somewhere. And for many years I tried to change myself into what I thought every one around me wanted me to be. As you can imagine I was on a "mission impossible" and in my desperate search for respect and acknowledgement I lost my self and everyone around me. At times I even lost the will to live.
Later on in life I realized that most people fear what they dont understand and I knew that I had to react, starting with myself.
At the age of 18 I began an amazing neverending journey. Working with myself, looking inside, cleaning up and throwing out.
Be true to your heart
Finding the real me, learning to forgive and love, both myself and others. I realized that the respect and love I so desperatly seeked outside my self in fact had been inside of me all along. Beautiful things started to happen.
This album is an expression of my believes and my believes only.
It doesnt matter to me if you like my voice or not (as long as you buy the album ;). To me music is not about being the best, but being the best I can be and doing my best. It`s about sharing stories and maybe even getting people to take a stand. It`s about making a difference and having fun at the same time.
Music is an art that like all other artforms speaks to us on different levels.
I`ve chosen to work with as many clichees as possible, because they are easy to relate to and in my opinion extremely funny. You will also find when you listen to the album, that humour is a very important ingredience. I believe that when people laugh their guards are down and therefore easier to reach. I also believe in the ability to laugh at ourselves.
Around the world, hate-crimes against people with different skin colour, religious believes or sexuality happens every day. In some countries they even execute people for being different.
Some even claims the right to do it in the name of their God.
Being gay it was natural for me to use homosexuality as a theme, but you can relate the lyrics to any minority.
Respect for life and the living
The album is about respect for our self and others. It`s about accepting the differences between us and losing the fear of the unknown.
It`s about letting go of all our limitations and letting our lights shine to erase all darkness. When we do that nothing can prevent us from achieving all the beautiful things life has to offer.
I`m not here to say that I represent all gays, nor that all gays are anything remotely like me. I believe that we are all unique individuals.
But I will speak up and even shout or scream if I have to. For gays or any minority who are being discriminated.
For some people the glass of life is always half full and for some it`s always half empty. But there is no reason to take a piss in the glass just because you`re afraid to drink from it.
Remember when you point a finger at others, 3 fingers points right back at you. Therefore I`m asking you to open up your heart, and love will open your mind.
LOVE Tomboy"
