I follow in the footsteps of Alexander. So, I will introduce myself as well.
My name is Hephaistion (pronounced Eye-pais-tyun), and I was born in 356 BC to my father, the Macedonian aristocrat Amyntas. My life changed forever the day I first met Alexander when we were both of the tender age of 13. We immediately became inseparable, and continued into manhood together, learning under the philosopher Aristotle in Mieza. I accompanied him from the very beginning, fighting in the Companions Cavalry Unit to eventually become his highest general and vizier. We were entwined so that even Sysisgambis, Darius III's mother, confused me for my great King. He showed his undying love to all by declaring "Fear not, Mother. He too is Alexander."
And like him, in regards to the question of predestination, I believe that I could have held no other position in the plans of the Gods. It was my chosen role to be Alexander's lover and companion, to provide him with support and compassion when he required it. I am eternally grateful to have been given this charge, as he is the very definition of my existence. I love him above all else in the world, and will always do so.
