So I've decided that retail is the kind of position that everyone should be required to do for at least a year, just to ground people in a sense, or to give them an idea of just how the world works. Kione put this idea in my mind last week, and I've been mulling around with it since then. I also think that people who work in Customer Service should be given free range on their allowed responses to people. I think it would just be a nice wake up call to be able to tell someone straight out that the words coming out of their mouths make no fucking sense whatsoever and that they should go sit in the corner and not come out until they realize what they've done.
Employees should not be giving reacharounds to this idiot customers who like to ask questions they think they know the answer to. Because they don't know. They never know. That's why we get paid. Not to sell out to some corporate bigwig...but to inform someone so that they leave, not necessarily with a purchase, but with a better understanding of the material...or both, both is fine too.
And for the last time, don't ask me to make you a deal. The price stays, unless you've got something you want to offer me. It's a two-way street. If you don't want the 4-year guarantee, the BBY Card, the installation, or the Reward Zone (which is free money and you're a fucking moron if you say no to that) then don't ask me for a goddamn deal.
As far as installation is concerned, if you think the price is too much, then try doing it yourself - and then get on line the next day with every other shmuck that thought they could mount their own TV and now they have 12 holes in their wall cause they don't know what the hell a stud is. We pay our employees to know what the fuck they're talking about.
I am proud as hell to work for a place like Best Buy. Cause I'm not just a number there. People know me by name, and at the end of the day, I know that there are customers out their who are happy, and who are gonna be in the next week looking to shop again. Everyone is a friend there. There aren't many places where work carries over into social life, but I'd say this is a damn good anomaly. I love seeing all my friends there every day. I love going in on days off just to chat, or going out for beer and wings with the HT Squad. Everything about it is amazing, and it' been just the thing I needed to get my life back on track.
