What is it with my family and technology?
Fair enough, my elder brother is fairly competent with the stuff; even if he does break it a lot it's not because he doesn't know what he's doing. The rest, however, are useless. They won't even attempt to solve problems on their own any more, they just come and pester me until I fix it for them.
Case in point: Yesterday evening, I hear my dad ask my brother for a scart cable. I think this is a little odd, but I'm pleased that for once he's trying to solve whatever has cropped up on his own initiative
A little later, I'm met by a complaint that the remote control for the VCR isn't working. After a whole two seconds of thought I figure out the problem. It's not the correct remote. For reasons that I won't go into the two VCRs in the house have been swapped around. He somehow hasn't noticed despite his VCR and my VCR being COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
After giving him the correct remote I am struck by dread as I wonder why the hell he was asking for a scart cable if it was the remote which wasn't working. Apparently he was unable to get reception on the regular video channel, which is understandable since there is a different VCR set up there now. This necessitated the scart cable. I'm just sat there wondering how in God's name he didn't have the common sense to try the other channels first, since if he had he would have found the one I set up for it.
And then the icing on the cake. He says he recorded something last night and wanted to watch it, hence all the palava above. I feel a sense of foreboding as I ask him which video he recorded it on. The answer: the one that was in there. The one that had the program that'd I'd recorded a couple of weeks previously and hadn't gotten around to watching yet. He's managed to record over it.
GODDAMMIT.
I really, really need to move out before one of us dies.
