Christmas Eve; the most boring day of the year. Nowhere's open, wherever is open is packed with last-minute shoppers and pickpockets, and nothing seems satisfying for very long. What better time than to try and think up a bit of drivel for those who have nothing better to do than read LJ :P
I got a Wii, it's pretty cool. It's sitting next to the Xbox360 because it's funny how tiny it is. There's a few things I don't like (maybe it's me, but internet channel crashes a lot) but in general it's really good fun. I've only got Zelda and Wii Sports because nothing else was in stock, and I'm enjoying both. One thing I've noticed is that in bowling, no matter where you stand in relation to the sensor bar and no matter how you move the remote to bowl, it always has some left-hand spin. Everyone I've asked has noticed this as well. Also, Baseball is hard. :( Last time I played it I dropped to -19 points which I didn't even know was possible.
I'm still playing a lot of bemani, since I have IIDX, Pop'n, Guitar Freaks and Drummania controllers in my room, and a metal DDR pad in the back room. Got my 100th IIDX AAA yesterday which was quite nice to achieve, but it's only because I'm going through Light7 really. #98 was Abyss THR 7keys, probably my best achievement so far in the game. Drummania is awesome, even on a small controller, but the difficulties seem a bit odd. I like how I can clear Onihime and Die Zauberflote advanced (high 70s low 80s) yet I can't clear a 46 and a 57.
In a way I feel a bit bad about how I play bemani. I've got Andy's DM controller at mine because my room's the only place where there's enough room for 3-player session (out of my room and Rob's and Andy's) so he lets me keep it. But I feel a bit.. Uneasy, I guess, because I tend to get good quite quickly at music games, and I want to play with my friends, rather than be too far ahead to do anything.
Rob never wants to play Battle mode IIDX with me and insists on sharing doubles play which is ok, but not as fun for me (I'm only a little better at clearing 8s etc but Rob has 0 AAAs) and not that I particularly mind, but it makes me feel like I'm being a bit arrogant (is that the right word?) by playing Extreme on Drummania when the others are on Basic/Advanced and we've been playing for the same amount of time. And I always feel like Andy will think I'm always trying to show him up when we play in the arcade because I always play nightmare after he's played hard/freestyle, because in a way I'd feel a bit left behind if it was the other way round..
I've borrowed Drew's acoustic guitar for a few days and I'm Lovin' It. It just sounds so nice and relaxed compared to the slightly tinny sound of my BC Rich with the distortion off. I lay on my bed and played for almost an hour before I fell asleep fully clothed, apparently still holding it, though dad came in and moved it so I didn't roll over on it or something. I've been mainly playing the acoustic Tenacious D songs on The Pick of Destiny, which I bought yesterday; my learning-a-song-in-under-5-minutes ability is still going strong, and apparently I can teach myself chords I've never heard or seen before by hearing them in a song, like what I found to be Eb in Beelzeboss :D As a bit of fun, I played Beelzeboss with my toe on the distortion button so I could switch back and forth to play both Jack and Kyle's parts, and successfully too :] At the moment, Baby is my favourite song, the guitar sounds like it should be played outdoors at midnight.. I need a band.
I finished off my christmas shopping yesterday. Drew and I went to Fleetwood Freeport, which is one of the strangest places I've ever been to. It's basically a collection of discount/clearance stores like Next Clearance and M&S Outlet, but we found 3 shops dedicated to handbags and 2 for towels. And one for paper. Just decorative writing paper, nothing else. And a Cadbury shop. Some really strange places considering there's only about 20 stores in the whole place. their arcade consisted of a '£1.50 and i'll print you some stickers' machine and a Thomas the Tank Engine ride :D I picked up something for Rosie which I can't say as she reads this :P And some stuff for dad; an alarm clock/radio for his room, a new briefcase because his current one is made of plastic, the lock doesn't work and it tries to spring open comedically at every bump, and a pair of christmassy socks, because they were only a quid and it's not really christmas unless dad gets socks.
I should probably get my room tidied before Rosie comes over on the 27th. I probably won't have time to do much tomorow, and I'm going to a computer fair to get a new graphics card on Boxing Day. On the 27th I'm probably going to buy Monkey Ball on the Wii and Oblivion on the 360, though Oblivion won't see much use until new year with Rosie round and friends over for new years party.
My graphics card decided to die last week for no reason. I'm pretty sure there's been something wrong with it from the start because it's been overheating while doing things it should be able to handle perfectly. It's not overclocked or anything, and room temperature's been low enough for me to be shivering =[ I need a bit of an upgrade anyway, I'm thinking Gforce 7700GT as it's not massively expensive and it's a pretty good card. I'll also get an 80GB external HDD and another gig of ram while I'm there, if they're around.
Which brings me to the end of my relatively epic post :o Comment with: What are you spending the most boring day of the year doing? And what should be the Midnight Victory Drink at my new years party?
