So long, eloquent metaphors...

I decided to update my facebook profile yesterday, which meant the cool, but ultimately too wordy "favorite quotes" and "about me" sections had to leave. I haven't decided what I'll put instead, but I felt bad just deleting the old ones. So they will live on here.
When I wrote these at 1 in the morning, I really did feel like I'd figured everything out...

Life is like a book: It's really just a whole bunch of little cycles from Top Left to Bottom Right. When you're in the middle of the page it's hard to tell exactly what's coming next; you can squint to see the words on the other side of the page, but they're backwards and it makes your eyes hurt. People read at different speeds, but when you get to the bottom of the page you just gotta turn it. Sometimes the slow readers don't quite get to the later chapters, and the speed readers miss out on the descriptive passages, but it's cool because they're doing what they want to do. Mostly though, you start reading every book, every chapter, and every page with a rough idea of what's going to happen even though it's rare that you're exactly right. Still, you keep on going because the story is exciting FOR it's random twists and turns.

Sometimes I wish I'd picked one thing to focus on, because I truly believe, almost to the point of arrogance, that I could be amazing at it. Instead I do lots of stuff pretty well, looking for and relishing the connections between random things. There are the obvious pitfalls of time idly spent, but when I get the chance to fly, everything looks all right from that vantage point.

So long...
